Probably some truth to that, but that kind of money isn't buying you anything in Tuscaloosa these days. Think about rent/mortgage, vehicle, food, and gas and you can't survive. Much easier for a guy like Butch Jones and Charlie Strong with $20-30M in earnings to accept and get those years under their belt. Ohio State isn't getting these guys.

No doubt that it’s easier for those guys, there would be A LOT of young coaches jumping at the chance and it would likely be more in the 60k range though, or they would room together and split expenses.

A lot of difference in having Nick Saban on your resume than Ryan Day. Nothing against Day, just the way it is. Day is a smart coach and is/will have success. Saban however is the GOAT and that has shown to have a profound impact on the trajectory of coaches careers.
