āCoach Orgeron, how are you doing?ā Witzling begins, drawing an acknowledgement from the coach as well as a thumbs up. āWeāre going to lock those gates and weāre going to beat you down. Remember āSC?ā
Orgeronās demeanor changes in an instant, the coach disparaging Witzlingās shirt as a Louisiana state trooper accompanying the coach flexes his right arm and taps his massive bicep.
Undeterred, Witzling continues, āYou said, āWeāre going to lock your gates, weāre going to lock your gates, weāre going to lock āem.ā ā
At an annual Conquest rally during the week of the game against UCLA at the Coliseum, Orgeron said, āCome Saturday night, weāre gonna let those little boys from across town into our stadium and weāre gonna lock the gates.ā
UCLA defeated USC 35-14, and Orgeron was informed two days later that he would not get the permanent job, which went to Steve Sarkisian.
The man who drew Ed Orgeron's UCLA 'sissy blue shirt' ire before Saturday's game at the Rose Bowl talks about what led to the exchange with the LSU coach.
