This "dumpster fire" term has been thrown around a lot in regards to Texas coaching search, program, boosters, etc. It must be the popular thing to say somebody's problems are a big dumpster fire. However, dumpster fire is not a term that I believe is consistent with Texas recent past. It was totally overblown, and then Internet sports fans just decided to attach this term to Texas.

i'm curious to see what all these naysayers will be saying if he goes in and starts winning. will they stand behind what they said in the beginning, or will they sack up and admit they were wrong?
Strong made his first bad move today by getting rid of Patrick Suddes. Even the guys that run sites like Orangebloods realized how valuable he was in Austin.
If you guys recall, just after Mack Brown was complaining about how our football administrative positions were structured and how he felt something needed to be instituted to control the number of personnel he hired Suddes away from the Tide.
Now with Steele gone to 'Ville I hope he's brought back to Tuscaloosa as the Director of Player Personnel. Most don't realize how valuable guys like Suddes, Steele, and Marynowitz are in how our program is ran.

It is arguable regarding the real vs perceived value that Patrick Suddes brought to the recruiting game. The Horns haven't recruited well even with him there though there are several factors involved.
Suddes is going to do alright. He is going to land on his feet and do well at any other program.
I'm not disappointed in the least that Strong got rid of Suddes. It may have nothing to even do with Suddes' performance. Many Longhorn fans knew that the next Texas Head Coach after Mack would clean house. And with all of the negative BS going around when Mack was there, its probably better that everyone in that old program gets the boot.<iframe style="display: none;" allowtransparency="true" id="rufous-sandbox" frameborder="0" scrolling="no"></iframe>
You're trying to tell me what value Suddes brought to the recruiting scene?
Geez OT, even the people who misled you so long about your coaching search have stated how much he brought and...

No. I'm not trying to tell you what value Suddes brings to recruiting. What I am saying, however, is that the value he brought to Texas recruiting is arguable whether it was worthwhile or not. Obviously there are multiple variables involved so just because Texas was down in recruiting even while Suddes was there doesn't necessarily mean it was his fault. Certainly, anyone could pin the overall recruiting more on the head coach.
Still, the bottom line is that the Texas program is no longer Mack Brown's and many Longhorn fans, including myself, actually would even prefer a complete house cleaning and a retention of zero former staffers. The only way to truly change the culture of a program, as Texas and Charlie Strong is doing, is to completely overhaul it. Unfortunately, even good people get cut out.

Texas was down in recruiting?
2012 top five class. 2011 top five class. 2010 top five class. 2009 top five class. 2008 top 15 class.
Texas wasn't developing players.
I'm lost when you continue to point to "changing the culture" and removing the "soft underbelly" and Suddes fits that bill to a "T."
I understand, and truly appreciate your defense of things regarding TX. Is it too much to ask of you to try to exercise some honest self-introspection?
I'm still lost on why you believed so adamantly in guys telling you Saban was the guy and now you are going directly against the same people when they say what a value Suddes adds to a program. It's true, you were deceived on the coaching search. Suddes is a completely different story as evidenced by what has been witnessed in the success our administration has had with player development and player personnel.
I'd take issue with your assertion that Suddes' value to the Texas program is irreplaceable. That is irrelevant though. The bottom line is that some people who are good coaches, or in Suddes' case, good recruiting coordinators, are going to be cut out when a new head coach is hired. Particularly when a total house cleaning is in order.

I'm not suggesting he not replaceable. I'm am saying he's one of the best in the business and finding a replacement isn't as easy as saying, "we want this guy."
I've followed him for...gosh, eight years maybe? He's one of the best in the business.
Whether or not Suddes is any good is totally irrelevant. For all we know, he may not have bought into the new regime. So, to criticize a new Head Coach for shedding some staff, good or bad, especially when a total overhaul is being asked for, well that's just plain naive and hypercritical.
