šŸˆ Breaking: Texas to name Louisville's Charlie Strong as next HC

I can't get past the $5m number. So I guess this is the new baseline for coaches who don't have any real hardware.

A few things I'm curious to watch over the next few years.

1) How do the Texas revenue numbers change?
2) How long does it take him to implement a better S/C program? He's bringing his S/C with him along with LB and DC coaches.
3) What does Texas recruiting look like in the next 3 years?

Over the last 5 years, Texas's roster is filled by 90% of TX SA's. Does Charlie stick to Texas or start venturing out to Florida, Georgia, etc.
2013 = 13 TX, 2 CA
2012 = 24 TX, 1 LA, 1 AZ, 2 JC's outta MS
2011 = 22 TX, 1 OK
2010 = 22 TX, 1 OH, 1 LA, 1 OK
2009 = 19 TX, 1 AR

How much of an influence do you think Sumlin's 5MM per year deal had over their offer?

It's probably worth noting Strong was making close to 4MM per at Louisville. I think the number was 3.7 plus bonus incentives.

ESPN crawl this morning reported that Strong has informed his AD that he will take the Texas job. So...Wow! Saban's really not going, huh? Gee, I guess when he said he wasn't going anywhere a couple of years ago, he actually meant it. Imagine that!

(Sarcastic post aimed at trollers and one particular poster here)

It's officially official! You guys can breathe a sigh of relief now.

Seriously? "Breathe a sigh of relief?"

As many times as you were told you were being grossly misled by those reporting on the Texas coaching search and told why these reports were wrong we're supposed to be breathing a sigh of relief?

Many here have done their best to empathize with your situation understanding what it's like to be a fan of a team when the coaching search is, yes, a soap opera. We've been able to empathize with what it's like to have a program that's in so much disarray.

And here you inject a comment suggesting we'll feel some solace based on TX finding a coach?

I won't assume I speak for our members here when I say we feel for you. Seeing how badly you've been jerked around for weeks about who was the next coach at TX only to find out you've settled for a guy who may have been on the B list we are sighing in relief—out of empathy.

Certainly not out of anxiety.

Much like the first report that was "confirmed by ESPN radio" I'm scheduled to be on a local show today with a radio station that's an ESPN affiliate. I'm likely to refer to this whole story as a soap opera. The host will agree...and we'll have another story "confirmed by ESPN radio."

And by the way, I'll readily admit I've been wrong about how coaches will do at a school. I thought Miles at LSU was a questionable hire, at best.

I truly wonder if the TX fan base will be going through this very same scenario within four or five years. I suspect I'll be able to empathize with you again. I know I'll try.

Cardinals player Andrew Johnson is quite displeased with his former coach at the moment:

"Looking at this Coach Strong interview & all I can do is shake my head.. He ain't real but **** it.... WE STILL BALL."

In a response to a friend's post:

"I know bra but it's how he went about it bra.. He told us not to worry bout nothing cause he ain't going nowhere."

Another response:

"I'll leave too but I'll tell my players ahead of time.. Not just pack ya bags and throw the deuces while you on a jet."

Final post:

"I'm done talking bout this situation.. Charlie ain't worried bout us so it's time to move on and keep our program top of the line.."

Apparently, in December, Strong was asked about the Texas job and said:

"I don’t even think about it. I have a really good job here. There’s a lot of work to be done here. The only thing I can control is what’s happening right here."

----------------------------------------

I'm not a coach, and I can't possibly understand how difficult it is to make such decisions .. But I always feel bad for the kids when coaches do stuff like this, you know?

How in the world do you figure that? If a junior transfers from Alabama to Michigan, then he loses that junior year.

A player that transfers has to sit the following year but doesn't lose one of the four eligibility years.

The only exception, currently, is for players who have graduated. And the NCAA is looking at changing that rule, again.

You mean like when a coach signs a 5 year contract and leaves after 2?

See the emoticon...

I dont see where that comes from? I guess you're saying that a player has 5 years to play 4 if they redshirt, but if a player has already redshirted and he transfers he still is going to lose a year of eligibility. So regardless of the technicality its still not a fair rule.

You still have it wrong Bird.

Let's say a player starts school in 2014 and redshirts. He plays in '15, '16, and then '17 before he decides to transfer. He'd sit a year in '18 but still be eligible to play in '19.

They can't play the first year at their new school. They don't get penalized a year of their eligibility clock.
