| FTBL BREAKING: Ryan Williams and Jaylen Mbakwe to Launch New Podcast 'New Wave'

It'll be the way we keep them at Alabama. I'm with you, but we gotta adjust or we'll be like Dabo.
I get it. CKD will need to be great at managing the unintended consequences of these kids having this much visibility and voice before they are mature enough to handle it.

True freshmen finding time to do podcasts in the middle of a football season at an elite program, adjusting to university life, adjusting to workouts, practices, training/rehab, taking college courses, etc.??? Definitely don’t see this as a positive. If I were DeBoer, I’d let graduates do this, but definitely not freshmen.

Let's look at this from another perspective.

It's a weekday night and both guys decide they are going to go to the movies and see Twisters. There's three hours or so they've spent away from the things you've mentioned. And, I'll bet EVERYONE is "cool" with the kids catching flick.

But, spend those two or three hours on a podcast talking about football? OH NO! That's bad?

4th and 23rd or the fourth take on the podcast? I'll take the pod, all day long.

Apples to oranges. I read they plan to hosts guests, which requires planning, scheduling, calendars, obligations, commitments, etc. Last I heard, they are on athletic scholarship and quasi-employees of the university, first and foremost. At a minimum, they should be told to limit side-hustles like this to the off-season.

I think it's a great idea and I would even go so far as to say the school should set up little studios. I think this keeps them occupied with productive activities and they may even learn something from guests. I think it also gives them one more element of association with the University and could ultimately be a selling point for attracting and keeping talent.

Anything less than a Natty should call into question how resources are apportioned, allocated, and expended, by both the coaching staff and players. Are we here to win games and titles or add another podcast to a podcast market well saturated already?

I understand this, and hope they’re are successful, but damn they need some of those media courses that Saban once upon a time made players take”BEFORE” talking to media, audiences……
Hey who am I though….. I really do hope it accomplishes what these young men want it too….

Goes back to my original point.

Versus...?

Side hustle? Come on, man. Would you have a problem with him working a few hours a week at Buffalo Phil's? We always have the Jimmy John's route.

I don't believe you are seeing the transition of thought in college football like you see transitions in other areas of life. @BamaFan334

"When Courtney Morgan walked off the plane."

Good idea for them and I’m sure the episodes will get downloaded a ton. Remember, these guys aren’t spending their nights studying like some. They don’t have to do much of that these days. They could be recording it on a Sunday, when they probably have the most free time.

Milroe and Arnold didn't have issues last year with all interviews they did. I wouldn't worry about this at all. They're smart kids and it's not gonna affect their performance on the field. You kinda acting like they can't have a life away from football complex.

And I don’t believe you’re understanding my point. Apples to oranges.

See 🍎: working part-time at a monotonous, low skill job for an employer that requires no extra time “off-the-clock” because you have to cover college expenses.

See 🍊: creating, managing, and conducting a podcast by hosting regular guests despite having all expenses covered including gold chains, luxury cars, and lucrative college salaries.

I suppose I’d be okay with it if:

a) they get college credit for it so that it applies toward whatever their minimum college credit hours are.

b) if DeBoer’s consent is required and he reserves the right to pull the plug at his discretion. Ultimately it’s his and his staff’s responsibility.

It’s like the adage, “give an inch and they will take a mile.” Only a couple of years into paying “amateur” college students obscene amounts of money to profit from their success on the field, they are now picking up additional gigs off the field. Do they want to be “built by Bama” or not? I can’t help but suspect how stuff like this creates friction between upper and underclassmen.

This thing falls under the umbrella of the football program and athletic department as a whole. The Advantage Center space (literally inside the stadium) was created for the athletes (not just football players) to be able to do some of this stuff. Create and grow a brand in a way. There’s a reason it’s partnered with Learfield.

Repeating what I said in my first post, these guys need to be managed to make sure they do not say things that should not be said. To many voices coming out of the program in my view. Young people need guidance and mentorship. They have not been under the communication 101 system that they need. as 17 and 18 year olds.

It isn't live. It's produced and edited. Guidance and mentorship are both baked into the cake (see previous post).
