Alabama 5-Star WR Commit Ryan Williams Wins Gatorade Player of the Year Again

  • Saraland’s star wide receiver and Alabama commit Ryan Williams named Gatorade Alabama Player of the Year for second consecutive year after impressive season
  • Williams announces reclassification into Class of 2024 and plans to sign with Alabama on February 9, his 17th birthday
  • Williams makes history as first two-time winner of Gatorade Alabama Award and is a finalist for the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s Class 6A Back of the Year Award.

Saraland’s star wide receiver and Alabama commit, Ryan Williams, has been named the Gatorade Alabama Player of the Year for the second year in a row. During the 2023 season, Williams caught 19 touchdown passes and helped lead his team, the Spartans, to the Class 6A championship game for a second consecutive year.
After the season, Williams made the announcement that he would be reclassifying into the Class of 2024. Although he has committed to Alabama, he has yet to officially sign with the Crimson Tide. He will be taking official visits to Alabama, Texas, and Auburn before making his decision. Williams plans to sign on February 9, which also happens to be his 17th birthday. Currently, he is in Orlando competing in the Under Armour All-American Game, which will be televised on ESPN at 3 p.m.
As part of the Gatorade Player of the Year program, Williams has made history by becoming the first two-time winner of the Gatorade Alabama Award. This program recognizes exceptional high school athletes in various sports across all 50 states. The selection process involves a committee of experts, including coaches, scouts, and media, who evaluate and determine the winners in each state.

Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 175 pounds, Williams had an impressive season. In addition to his receiving stats, he also rushed for 269 yards and seven touchdowns, threw a touchdown pass, and returned both a punt and kickoff for touchdowns. He is also a finalist for the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s Class 6A Back of the Year Award, along with teammate KJ Lacey and Clay-Chalkville’s Jaylen Mbakwe. Williams won this award and the state’s Mr. Football award last January. The awards banquet for this year’s winners will take place on January 16 in Montgomery.
If Williams is named Mr. Football once again, he will become the first repeat winner in the award’s 42-year history. Following his announcement of reclassification, Williams participated in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game and was named the Most Valuable Player in Alabama’s victory in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

Amazing Accomplishments by this young man, we could use some star power at WR again.

Negative recruiting about Milroes ability to get the ball to the WR's will occur by those trying to flip Williams. Still bugs the crap out of me he did not sign with Bama. Makes me question his commitment and just keeps the door open for higher bidders trying to make a name for themselves..

The only other school in the race is auburn, and they'd do well not to compare QB's. The have $ going for them and the fact that he's a legacy recruit. Maybe for them that'll be enough (though they want to hire T. Robinson too), but that's about all they have...

Brandon hit the nail on the head. Auburn is throwing money at him and trying to push his dad but I even saw a recent article (Wish I had saved it) where they interviewed his Dad and he said that Alabama was the best place for him to develop of the schools he liked. IF you have the parents who is an Auburn legacy won over, then the race is pretty much over.

I think the only thing that can derail Ryan Williams at this point is a disgusting amount of NIL money or Saban retiring neither of which I think will come to fruition.

The Barn has 3 issues right now:

1) 2 5-star Wide Receivers in this class - Why would Ryan want to be the 3rd 5-star WR? He'd be less likely to see early playing time.

2) They don't currently have the kind of money it might take to completely change his mind.

3) Their QB is worse than Milroe and they don't have an elite QB recruited that's going to change anything in the next few years.

Bama has a few things going for them:

1) The parents seem to genuinely think Bama is his best chance at the NFL. Which means they're not too worried about the NIL money

2) We have a proven track record of getting WR drafted and developing them. (Auburn doesn't)

3) We have Milroe who will be a 2nd year QB and will grow and we have Multiple behind him that are studs. Lonergan, Simpson, and Sayin could all take a step and take the reins from Milroe if he doesn't improve on some aspects and they make a leap next year. Auburn has Peyton Thorne and we saw how those passes went.
