🏈 Braxton Miller to Bama?

You've been told things that are not true.

We are each entitled to our opinions, but I respectfully disagree. These are kids that have trained together for years. In comes Braxton Miller, an unknown to them, who is then
handed the reins to the team in a matter of days, or several months. There are psychological matters involved here. Like I said we are each entitled to our opinions.

Yes, there are. I know first hand the possibility of him coming in is welcomed: by QBs.

A team thinking about winning. Unselfish. Think about t...
Gotta say, I find that kinda hard to believe. Of course, I'm really smart, and that's hard for people to believe.

It's not like Braxton would get the starting job immediately, he's gonna have to work for it... Sure some players might have an issue, but at the end of the day, they are their to win, get an education, and/or get into the NFL. Braxton doesn't impact education and could help them win and get to the NFL.

To me its no different than a true freshman coming in and landing the starting job.

I have seen the text from the actual player's saying this. These were player's with the team last year that are no longer with the team, and player's that are on the roster for this Fall's team. I didn't say everyone, but I saw these messages from some of the most prominant player's we have saying it.

Certain player's also said they didn't care for Lane Kiffin. I won't say any more than that for the sake of keeping names and hinting at names out of the public eye, but there's a lot of differeing opinions with the players and position groups as well.

Ok

But you're crazy if you don't think players on the roster don't want to play and wouldn't be pissed.

I've got my mental issues, but that's neither here nor there.

Saying players want to play? That's a given. Saying they're pissed about the possibility? Simply not the case. It's no different, in their eyes, than a true frosh coming in and earning playing time. It's wasn't a random comment/statement.

A guy pledging to Alabama out of high school is a little different than one choosing to attend another school, would've competed against Alabama if not for injury, and then transferring in. Even in high school you get a little ackward with transfers. They have done it their other team's way for years, but atleast a freshman comes in with a clean pallet and learns from Day 1 to do it the Alabama way. Plus these freshmen have been recruited by these players, the current players have hosted these guys, and they've built relationships of trust that Alabama is the best place for them. Transfers are blank pallets with no allegiance.

Again, a matter of opinion TerryP, but I think you underestimate the camaraderie and sense of togetherness that is forged through several years of the extreme practice and training that these guys are subjected to. Do they want to win, yes. But I believe they want to win with the guy they have worked with for the past several years. If Braxton Miller came in and just blew everyone away with his greatness, then he might change some minds. However, I believe the team bond is what makes this team great. I sincerely hope Braxton Miller stays a long way away from Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

There no one that really fits that bill.

Coker, hasn't been here a year. He knows the system better now than he did, but there's still the same type of issues he had last season. Jacob, when he's on, HE'S ON. Yet, on the other hand, when he's off it's the type of play that could easily cost the team a game, if not more.

Two others, Bateman and Morris....the later running with wide receivers recently, neither with a pass in D1 play.

Barnett? We simply don't know how he's going to progress but we do know he's not in SEC football shape right now. He needs to gain weight and muscle mass.

That brings us around to Cornwell. First of all, we've got to take into account Saban's reluctance to start a frosh (even one that's 'shirted.) Now, the good thing about DC is he's progressed better than those around him. That in itself flies in the face of those who caution those on the bench won't develop due to another QB joining that position group. There are those that believe he's earn the starting job before, or during the season. We'll see how that works itself out but let's look at one aspect of that.

He's a freshman. If we look back over Saban's coaching tenure he's not one that leans towards starting guys this young.

Throughout these discussions on Braxton I've cautioned to closely look "at the messengers" who are saying "he's Tuscaloosa bound." One thing for sure is that Miller has left that possibility open. I've never put hopes in what he might bring, but I have said what he does bring: starting experience in D1 play.

I wonder how many against this transfer have based their feelings on where he's coming from; not what he brings. There's no doubt Meyer doesn't want a healthy Miller on another team. After all, that kind of move could keep OSU from repeating. (Part of me likes the idea just because it would grate on Urban's nerves...A LOT.)

If he comes, I like the move. If he doesn't, it's not a make or break for the success of the 2015 team. A QB with his talent, experience, as long as he's healthy just adds more talent to the roster.

I fully realize the QB position carries a different opinion, from fans, about how it should shake out. As I see this, it's no different than a guy like James Carpenter coming in when he did. Or, a Dominick Jackson. How many players were already on the roster, in that position, when they arrived?

We've got a lot of guys on scholarship at the WR position. But, the team is getting a visit from a WR named Massey this weekend. Here's a kid committed to East Carolina but ended up in JUCO in MS. Are people going to look at him and say they'd rather he didn't?

Both of these guys aren't going to have a bearing on how, or who, the staff recruits. It very well could have a big impact on how the team does this season.

Which brings me back to the question, "why not?" Is it all due to him coming from OSU?

I personally don't care what Miller does as I have stated before, but the quarterback position carries way more weight than any other position. The position is tougher to learn. AJ McCarron knew the offense and knew where everyone needed to be, when to call audibles, and how to get everyone lined up. It takes time to learn the play book, build chemistry, yadda yadda. I just feel like with three months to work on all of that it almost seems pointless. Yes, Russel Wilson thrived, but how many others have not lived up to it? Coker came in with the possibility of two years, so to me that's a little different than spending one semester at a school and just hoping it all comes together. You talk about playing a freshman is not very probable for Saban, but Miller is a freshman to our system and team, even with game experience.

I don't care where Miller is coming from. I felt the same way about Golson from Notre Dame. Like I said earlier, my primary concern is that we're broadcasting that our coaches can't develop the number of quarterbacks we have on scholarship. some 4 and 5 star types. Number 1, I don't buy that. Number 2, I don't want the 4 and 5 stars we are pursuing now to thing they are wasting their talent going to Bama. We are not going to change each other's mind, and I am OK with that.

Based on what we're seeing across the board with QB's I don't see that as a cause for concern. If we just look within the conference, who is there out there to be concerned with when it comes to throwing that kind of line out on the recruiting trail?

Georgia, under Richt and Bobo, have probably done the best job with QB's over the last 8-10 years. Yet, this same Georgia has asked for and received permission to talk to graduate transfer Grayson Lambert out of VA. Spurrier, long thought as a QB guru, has recruited how many QB's that have panned out over his tenure in Columbia? He's signed as many (and I suspect it's more) than Alabama has signed. Florida brings in Josh Grady and soon (if he isn't there now) Luke Del Rio. LSU's QB situation isn't a secret. Ole Miss brings in Swagga. UT, despite the love they are getting, can't look at Dobbs and know he's ready for play.

These four and five star type guys...look at the last few recruiting classes and tell me how many have panned out. Brandon Allen, a consensus top 10 pro-style QB in the 2011 class, is doing what in Arkansas? Jeff Driskell, considered the best QB in that class...heck, realistically only one of those top 10 guys have panned out.

In the end, or rather how it stands today, it's an intriguing story to me. I've mentioned the messenger as one to watch here. We know how Urban is with the "truth" of a story. People I trust still maintain there's life in this story. A guarantee he'll be transferring? No one I trust steps out that far.

I notice the quote from Meyer doesn't specifically say he'll be playing QB but still it's unambiguous about whether he's leaving or not.

This is a Tweet from this morning by a sports reporter at Columbus Dispatch and below that another couple from the same interview Meyer gave today apparently. Below those is an article by CBSSports.com:

Urban Meyer on Braxton Miller status: "He's playing for Ohio State (this) fall."

Meyer said "Braxton Miller is up to throwing football 35 yards now with zip". As I reported months ago, he's on rigid rehab schedule.

"Urban Meyer says Braxton Miller isn't leaving Ohio State

Urban Meyer says he'll still be coaching Braxton Miller this fall. (USATSI)

After Ohio State entered the offseason fresh off a national championship and with three very good quarterbacks on the roster, just about everybody was convinced at least one of them would be leaving, with Braxton Miller being the most likely option.

He was graduating, after all, and he would have his choice of schools to finish his college career at.

But then a funny thing happened. Nobody left Ohio State. Now, here we are, it's nearly June, and Braxton Miller is still at Ohio State. It seems pretty clear at this point that he isn't going to be leaving at this point, but that's not stopping people from asking Urban Meyer about it, and Meyer was about as frank as he could be on the situation on Friday.

"[Braxton Miller]'s playing for Ohio State (this) fall," said Meyer when asked about Braxton's status for what had to be the billionth time.

So are you convinced yet? Braxton Miller is going to be a Buckeye next season, as will J.T. Barrett and Cardale Jones. Is it somewhat problematic to have three really good quarterbacks on your roster, and only so many snaps to go around? Of course it is, but it's also a great problem to have. I guarantee you Urban Meyer and the Ohio State coaching staff are thrilled to have this "problem."

Report: Braxton Miller to reveal 'immediate plans' next week

Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller tweeted yesterday that he had a successful check-up with his doctors, and it appears he is on his way to full recovery from the torn labrum in his shoulder that cost him the entire 2014 season.

Now, the final question is where will Miller play the 2015 campaign, his final one at the collegiate level. He can either remain at OSU and attempt to beat out Cardale Jones and J.T. Barrett for the starting quarterback spot, or, as a graduate transfer, head to a new destination where he would be eligible immediately.

Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer has said he expects Miller back, andaccording to a report from The Dispatch, the signal caller will announce his intentions soon.

In response to a question from The Dispatch about what it means for his future, Miller wrote back that he expects to announce his immediate plans next week. As a recent graduate, Miller has the option to transfer and play elsewhere immediately for his final season; though Meyer and others have said they expect Miller back, he has never formally announced his intentions

It seems likely Miller will stay in Columbus, but we should all find out soon enough what he will ultimately do.
