🏈 Braxton Miller to Bama?

There been a thread going on Tidesports.com for over a week now that started off saying Miller was headed to Bama. Anyone from RTB hearing this? The Tidesports staff have not commented yet.

Here's the latest "insider" info posted today:

1) He has no chance of being the starting QB at Ohio St this season, so if he wants to play, he will either have to transfer or declare for the supplemental draft, with transfer being the most likely.

2) He has privately expressed interest in Alabama, and even let Bama team doctors perform a physical on him in NOLA the week of the Sugar Bowl.

3) His doctor is Lyle Cain, who just happens to be one of Bama's team doctors, so you can guarantee that we absolutely know the status of his shoulder, and are still interested.

4) He was in Tuscaloosa the weekend before last, on an unofficial visit, hanging out with several players.

5) If healthy, he absolutely makes us a better team. Some of you are putting way too much into this team chemistry angle. The players want to win above anything else, and if Miller gives them the best chance to do so, they will embrace him. Period.

I've heard from nobody important he could be in play for a while now, but then again, I heard Coker was going to be the starter last year

I'm sure Braxton is looking for the best place to further his development, potentially win it all, and help him get to the NFL. Alabama having Saban/Kiffin I'm sure helps influence that thinking. Having a team loaded with talent doesn't hurt either.

I'll say this, I'd be ok with Braxton coming in from a hired gun perspective. However, I'm not sure it helps us in the long run from a QB development standpoint.

IMO, I do not see him coming to Bama. If Miller does leave Ohio St. after he graduates May 10th, he will go to a school where he is a lock to start next season. He would not be a lock at Bama, although he did start 3 years at OSU b4 getting hurt. Miller is an excellent runner but is not an accurate passer, yeah I know, you are thinking Blake Sims from a year ago. I just do not see it or him in T'town.

I'll piggy back on this @planomateo and agree 100% with this. I think the immediate impact he would make would make us better immediately at the QB position BUT, it would be the young QBs that I think would be hurt more than helped.

I fear recruiting quarterbacks in the future may be jeopardized if we sign and play Miller this year. I just don't buy that we can' t coach up one of the five on scholly right now. If I were a 5 star junior high school quarterback from California and was being recruited by Nick right now, I would have serious reservations about signing with the Tide, if this develops.

I have heard that's why he is considering the transfer, he wants to play quarterback. Ohio State would gladly play him elsewhere if he would switch.

Likely, very likely, due to the fact it's coming from Barger's site. I can't think of the guys last name, @planomateo might know off the top of his head...Drew something...he's the guy who has pushed this story back to the forefront.

There are some interesting twists in how this is being told today versus what happened as I understand this. As example:

While Ohio State was in New Orleans, he did receive an evaluation from the Andrews/Cain group on his shoulder. (That's not uncommon, for anyone, considering how widely known and respected their group is in the field.) Now, that story has turned into "The Bama team doctors performed..."

I could say "the Auburn team doctors performed a physical on him" which is just as true considering Andrews and Cain work with both programs.

I like the "privately expressed interest" line. Braxton mentioned several teams when he was in his rehab work with the Andrews group. I could say "he's privately expressed interest in LSU" and it's just as true. Miller told other athletes he was considering transferring under the graduate transfer rule.

4) He was in Tuscaloosa the weekend before last, on an unofficial visit, hanging out with several players.

That may be true. I don't know and honestly don't care if he was or wasn't. I can't help but be very skeptical if he was in town someone would have posted something, somewhere that weekend. Social media simply doesn't allow things like that to happen without someone, somewhere, posting a picture or note. Outside of this Drew fellow posting notes on Barger's forum...that's all I've seen.

On another note, I have heard there has been interest voiced to the staff from a running back looking to transfer in...

Agree. If he comes in, you can probably make a safe bet that at least one of our three young QBs: Cornwell, Barnett, and/or Bateman will tell the staff where to shove the playbook.

Braxton Miller is a difference maker, no other way to say it. We opened up the doors for Coker last year and it could happen with Miller.

I want to win, and I want to win yesterday, but I don't see this happening. If, a big IF, he did come in and land the starting job, that would ensure us of having 4 different starting QB's in 4 consecutive years (2013-2016) as he would be a one-and-done. And why would he transfer to a place where he could be in the same situation he left? Especially when he only has one year of eligibility remaining. I just don't see it happening.

If he were a RB with top talent, stuck in a loaded depth chart, I'd be more inclined to believe it. Due solely to the fact that we have had our depth reduced significantly at RB since last season. On that note, by UT buddies are very excited about Kamara. They are optimistic he will produce bug for them this year, along with their returning RB Hurd. They also self-identified the fact that they are so excited about getting a player that was several rungs down the Bama depth chart, and interjected the respect that should accompanies that scenario.

Unless someone other than Coker wins our QB job we will have four starters in four consecutive seasons anyway. I was not as excited over Coker as some were, largely because we had other QBs with experience in our system who had payed their dues. I feel the same about Miller. Loyalty to a teammate whom you know well both from practice, off season work and games does mean something. Just ask Blake Sims teammates.

I'd love to see the young studs we already have be developed and used. Don't care one way or the other if Miller comes on board. IF he did, I think he'd be in a similar situation as Coker was last year - you have to learn the system, the team, build trust with the other guys, and pay some dues. I believe we need to have one guy step up and lead, but it would be a good thing if we're able to get some other guys in games to build some experience.
