I arrived prepared for the CyberKnife radiation surgery today only to find out the 3 neuro-surgeons had not agreed on the exact method of treatment. The neuro-surgeon I talked with today said they needed a CT Scan to complete the plan they need for treatment. After an explanation of the CyberKnife radiation surgery procedure and a CT Scan I was sent home to wait a call for an appointment for the procedure.

I learned today that if not repaired, it would eventually hemorrhage and cause a stroke. After repairing, the risk of a stroke from this problem is almost nil.

So I'm still on a wait and see schedule. Sorry for the false alarm yesterday.

@rammerjammer, you've got it. Dr. Swaid is the head neuro-surgeon I've been seeing. He has referred me to a Dr. Dumas (sp?) who is a radiation specialist and one of his partners. All 3 of them will be present when my procedure is done I was told yesterday. Dr. Dumas is a Bama fan.

It would have been much more convenient for me to go to Huntsville but my family doctor and several vascular surgeons my wife works with highly recommended Dr. Swaid. I appreciate yours and everyone's show of concern and encouragement. Roll Tide.

I finally have an appointment for tomorrow (Friday) at 10 a.m. for the CyberKnife procedure. The procedure will take approximately 45 minutes and usually the worst side effect is a period of nausea that may last 3 or 4 days. My head will be held in place by a mesh mask they formed during my last visit and a robot will be delivering the radiation to seal off the leaking blood veins / vessels in what little brain I have left. I'm lucky as my problem will only require one treatment where the normal is 3 to 5, so I'm thankful for that.

They told me the next 6 months would prove if it was successful or not with the absence of any of the problems I experienced (severe headaches, severe nausea and loss of vision.) After 6 months, the time required for the brain / veins / vessels to completely heal, I'll have another MRA / MRI / Cat Scan done just to compare with the ones done when my problem was diagnosed.

They told me to eat a normal breakfast and that I would leave with no restrictions. So that sounds good and I'm hoping for the best and feel sure it will turn out that way.

Father, I ask that you will be with Wayne and his family as he goes through this procedure tomorrow. Give them grace and peace as they wait for the surgery to be complete. I ask that you will guide the surgeons and medical team as they perform the work on our board brother. We pray that you will be glorified and honored in all that is said and done before, during and after the surgery. Give quick and speedy recovery and we ask that a full recovery be made.
