🏈 Bowl games thread

Currently the great majority of the Bowls are little more than ESPN TV studios.

There's been some great ball games so far in this bowl season. I realize they may not hold the same appeal as last year to some...and it's easy to make an assumption those that can't appreciate the games have been "gussed."

The point the "Pizza-Pizza" bowl had more viewers than the Big East title game in basketball?!?! Speaks volumes.

WSU/Colorado State, Tulane/Lafayette, Pitt/Bowling Green were damn good games. Maryland and Marshall have been good too. All I care about is good football, there have been some stinkers but some really good ones too and the really good matchups haven't even happened yet.

The Ohio v Eastern Carolina game was tied going into the fourth quarter only to finish with ECU winning by 17 AFTER a 20 point fourth quarter.

Boise State v Oregon St.? Snoozer. Same with the USC and San Diego State games.

What's that equal out to being...7 of the 10 games have been good football? Not a bad way to start the bowl season.

And, based on how Vegas has laid out the rest of the season...going to be some close ball games.

Will the new playoff system change anything about the crap bowls? Like, the ones besides NC, Sugar, Rose, Fiesta, etc.

Only thing that will change is that there will be more bowl games. Montgomery, for example, is getting a new bowl game next year. The Camellia Bowl. I dont have a problem with their being this money bowl games tho I would rather there be less. I think there just needs to be better care taken into picking the matchups.

Thanks Birdman! That's interesting.

Anyone catch the beginning of the Texas Bowl (Syracuse-Minnesota) when the Syracuse guy fumbled and refs said he was down .. when the ball was fumbled while he was running and he fell down a full 2-3 seconds after dropping it?! Luckily the official review made it a fumble but what an unbelievably terrible initial call!

Allen is where Alec Morris played, its one of the few cities who opted for a single high school and has a city population of about 90,000.

The guy to the left of the oompa loopas...That could very well be the look on my face, too. :-)

For those who missed it.

And, I just noticed a reference to the Clemson v Ohio State game while surfing around a little and a comment was made this is the first time the two teams have met since the infamous "Woody slugs Clemson player."

The Michigan loss is noteworthy.

About a month ago there was word that as many as seven players were considering leaving their program. It made me wonder about Hoke's situation. It was my opinion then, and after last night even moreso, he'll be on the proverbial "hot seat" in 2014.

While this is certainly not all of his fault, I don't see how a schools administration can look at a program that's lost 9 of its last 11 bowl games and think "we're on good footing."

That said, here's H/T to Gardner. Having his foot broken in the Ohio State game and toughing it out? Admirable.

When I last looked in on the game last night daU was getting pounded to the tune of 28 or 29 -2 in the 3rd quarter. Made me smile.

That game left me shaking my head for more than one reason.

I don't know if anyone caught the double-throat slash by Bridgewater last night after the last touchdown. A couple of thoughts on that score.

On one hand it's hard to question a guy running the ball and scoring when his team is up 29-2 with around 12 minutes left in the game. In this case, it's 4th and goal from the 1 yard line. Up that much, do you kick or choose a running play? A run for the score automatically leads to questions about running up the score. But then again, that's a bad angle. It's one of those choices they get paid to make, ya know?

Throat slash, penalty, we all know the stories. Last night I had to do a double-check while reading when I saw one national analyst say, "we need to remember he's only 21 years old."

Some national perspective, and one Michigan guy, on the Wolverines:

You guys remember the "SEC only wins because they oversign" guys? Here's one of the prominent ones.

The Oregon/Texas game is pretty damn boring...

Swoopes threw a 60 yd pass in the air, which Davis missed. Kinda surprised they put him in this game, I've watched him play basketball/football for a few years, he has tons of upside. His aunt was WNBA great Sheryl Swoopes.
