One could argue subbing new defensive lineman is nonsense. Depends on perspective.

I didn't watch the game last night. Just flipped on the TV a few minutes ago and one of the first things I noticed was Auburn subbing five defensive linemen.

I understand where you're coming from with that post, but I still maintain there needs to be a balance with how the officiating crews handle games involving a HUNH. They still speed up their movements for one team but not the other.

To me that's a question that needs addressing.

Not for long if Jay Jacobs has his way. He's talking of adding four or five championships to their count.

I don't think that's a big deal if they're adding legitimate selectors—but one of the years he's suggesting is 2004. A year they were voted national champ by a kids computer poll (which was changed when USC overtook Auburn in the voting) and Golf Digest.

And that was exactly my point. Balance. The defense deserves a chance to set. It can't all just favor the offense; even the officials seem to get caught up in the hurry up and rush to set the ball. Also, I think the HUNH inadvertently results in missed calls. For example, illegal downfield blocking is almost never caught because of the options, but it happens all the time.

Yes I have seen that also. It is too simple. The answer is to have the officials wait 5 seconds before they set the ball in place on every play. If a team runs 150 plays a gaime it will only add to the game time not yhe clock time if it is done right. It would be like a 5 second time out on all first through 3rd downs. If the rules don't change the only other option is to have a faster system to substitute.
