🏈 Bowl games thread

The Oregon/Texas game is pretty damn boring...

Swoopes threw a 60 yd pass in the air, which Davis missed. Kinda surprised they put him in this game, I've watched him play basketball/football for a few years, he has tons of upside. His aunt was WNBA great Sheryl Swoopes.

Couldn't believe he dropped it! He had it!

That pick six by Oregon pretty much sealed the deal on the game .. Poor Mack. In front of a home crowd too.

Case sucks, 48 yds and 2 INT's. I'm not even sure why he's playing at this point. He was busy all summer on missions, pissed off alot of Texas fans.

Seems like the last few years, Texas has went thru QB after QB. They play one for a few games, then change out to another. Just a weird way to "develop" QBs.

And there you have it, losing 21 games in 4 seasons while making $5m+ a year. And he wants more money...

Serves him, and them, right.

I've got no issues with him thinking, "they're out there stating we have enough money here we can make a run at, and get, any coach out there. If they are going to take that stance, and run me out like they did, pay the piper."

You know me, Matt. I try to look at things from both sides.

I did in this case as well. I asked myself, "is there a situation where we've released a coach and he's come back and basically sued UA for more money after dismissal."

We have, and I was pissed off about his actions. If you recall, when we let DuBose go Johnson was gone as well. When Johnson was hired by the Citadel UA stopped sending him checks. He sued based on the point "The Citadel wasn't comparable employment to UA." Never mind the contract stated he'd be paid until he found work.

(In retrospect, I wonder if he realizes that he should have kept his damn mouth shut. He certainly proved his worthiness as a head coach at Southern Miss.)

There's been some great ball games so far in this bowl season. I realize they may not hold the same appeal as last year to some...and it's easy to make an assumption those that can't appreciate the games have been "gussed."

The point the "Pizza-Pizza" bowl had more viewers than the Big East title game in basketball?!?! Speaks volumes.

Oh, I know. I love them. Tee it up, turn the TV camera on, and I'll watch. I was referring to the lack of attendance at the games. The TV ratings will keep those Bowls in business.

Agreed. Occasionally we'll get a bowl game getting a payday from ticket sales as well. See Ole Miss vs Pitt last year. If I recall correctly, of the non-BCS bowl games, it was a one of the better attended bowls...the Old Grey Lady was about sold out if not sold out.

Did any of you see that lick UCLA's #35 laid on Logan Thomas? WOW! It's ridiculous that was called a penalty. Clean, massive, and LEGAL! Terrible call! This isn't flag football. :icon_rolleyes:

Caught wind of it via twitter when it happened, saw a video shortly thereafter, he got rocked. That UCLA LB Myles Jack was steamrolled by Logan Thomas the play just before that.

The hit.

Sick hit!!! Looks legal to me though. The guy that hit him had about 1/2 a second to react, no time to pull up ..

Watch the .gif closely, specifically the hitter. Based on the definition of the rule and what they consider launching I can see why he got flagged.

He does hit him high on the numbers, which by definition is legal, but that's lost in the way Logan's head is flung back by the impact.

Was he ejected?

Brings me to wonder this...if a player is ejected due to targeting in a bowl game does he have to sit out the first half of the first game, next season?

IMO, if it was EVER legal, it should not have been. Wrap your arms around the guy's waist or legs and drive him to the ground. TACKLE the damn guy! It looks like some BS Roller Derby thug like hit to me.
