Plenty of top prospects arrived on campus Saturday led by Da'Shawn Hand, five-star defensive end from Woodbridge High School in Va., and Marlon Humphrey, five-star cornerback from Hoover High School in Ala. Hand remains in Tuscaloosa, but he is scheduled to leave around 5:15 p.m. We will try to reach him as soon as he gets on the road. However it is sometimes difficult to reach these prospects immediately. I spoke with Bobby Humphrey this afternoon. He doesn't expect Marlon to say much about his visit. He doesn't like to talk about any trips. That will change once he begins official visits. The good news for Alabama is that Humphrey visited for the second time this fall, and will return in two weeks for the LSU game.
Elisha Shaw, four-star defensive tackle from Tucker High School in Atlanta, Ga., returned to Alabama on Saturday. He stayed in town until today. Alabama is a heavy favorite. I hope to speak with Shaw this evening. He had a flat tire on his return trip home today. (I spoke with Elisha Shaw. He told me that Alabama is the heavy favorite. He will return for the LSU game. However he will not announce his decision until the U.S. Army All-American game in January.)
A few prospects did not visit with the most notable Charles Mosley, three-star offensive tackle from Brighton High School in Tenn. Mosley had a death in the family. Alabama will try to get Mosley on campus in two weeks for the LSU game.
Stephen Roberts, four-star cornerback from Opelika High School in Ala., visited Auburn again instead of Alabama. He said he didn't want to travel after getting "banged up" a little bit on Friday night. It was his fifth visit to Auburn this fall. He has only attended two Alabama games. He will return to Tuscaloosa for the LSU game. He plans on going back to Auburn for the game against Georgia and Alabama. Roberts maintains he is solid with his commitment to Alabama, but the more he trips to Auburn the better the Tigers have at flipping him. His recruitment won't come to an end anytime soon.
A few Alabama commitments were in T-town including Bo Scarbrough, Rivals100 athlete from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., and Shaun Dion Hamilton, Rivals100 linebacker from Carver High School in Montgomery, Ala. Mekhi Brown, 2015 five-star defensive end from Carver High School in Columbus, Ga., was originally scheduled to visit. He did not make the trip. Alabama getting Scarbrough back on campus after he took official visits to Ole Miss and Notre Dame is positive news.
Scarbrough is enjoying these free trips. I expect him to take all five visits. He is seriously interested in other programs, but Alabama is battling to keep him in this class. I think it wil take a lot right now for him to change his mind. I think it's good news he continues to visit, and expected to return for the LSU game.
Alabama extended an offer on Saturday to Kyle Phillips, 2015 four-star defensive end from Hillsboro High School in Nashville, Tenn. Phillips is considered one of the top players in the Volunteer State. Auburn, Clemson, Duke, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Virginia are among other schools who have offered.
A few other big names in the 2015 class who made it to Tuscaloosa on Saturday included Drew Richmond, four-star offensive tackle from Memphis (Tenn.) University School, Keaton Anderson, linebacker from Florence High School in Ala., Lester Cotton, offensive guard from Central High School in Tuscaloosa, Christian Bell, 2015 four-star defensive end from Hoover High School in Ala., and Maurice Smitherman, cornerback from Minor High School in Adamsville. Richmond, Anderson and Cotton have offers from Alabama.
I know a lot of people may think Alabama has stopped recruiting Josh Casher, four-star center from St. Paul's Episcopal School in Mobile, Ala. That's not the case. Alabama is still very interested in Casher, but he has not kept in contact on his end with the coaching staff. I expect a re-commitment to Auburn to happen very soon.
C.J. Hampton, four-star safety from Meridian High School in Miss., and Cory Thomas, three-star defensive end from McAdory High School in McCalla, Ala., did not visit.
