So is the Clemson guy (Rumph) gonna help us? would Rumph be considered an upgrade or is it just to help with Clowney (as the article implies). also, Rumph was just given a raise to 180K would we offer enough to make him leave? or would he move for the same amount?

This is good for UA and it has nothing to do with Clowney (meaning a change was coming regardless of Clowney). Best of luck to Davis though at UT.

It appears to be an upgrade to me. Rumph brings a real innovative approach to the position. Supposedly, on passing downs, he believes Defensive linemen should shed blocks and then TACKLE the quarterback as opposed to running past them and allowing them to complete long passes down the field. Dabo has a lot more to worry about than losing a DL coach.

Terry, what's your take on this hire? Being in SC I know you'll have some insight. I assume by the timing of it all that this has been in the works for a while. You don't hire someone a few hours after a resignation just for the thrill of it.

I agree. Look at 2009 when we had such a strong pass rush. Look at this last game against MSU....
Marcell was in that kids face so much you'ld have thought he was trying to kiss him. We have no problems getting to the qb.
If it works, and it ain't broke don't "fix it".

We've been loaded at the DL position for a while now. While Davis was a decent coach, our DLine success lately has more to do with the playerS on the DLine not the plays or coaching. I'm not down on Coach Davis but I heard him speak at a clinic last summer and quite frankly I was not very impressed with him. I think we got an upgrade.
