🏈 Big news: Tim Williams to stay for senior year

He really doesn't. His second contract would be millions.

Very high in the NFL community right now. More so than A'Shawn.

"second contract" and "would be" are loaded words there...

We're talking about a guy who the staff has shielded from playing legitimate run downs his entire career. Thinking he's a second contract guy at this point is very optimistic. He's no where near big enough to be a 4-3 DE, so from the jump half the NFL teams are passing.

If he's playing OLB, has anyone ever seen him in pass coverage? Obviously he's a fine pass rusher and yes that's a commodity... No one has a clue how he is in the other 2/3 of the game though. We've seen guys like Dummervile make a career out of pass rushing, but the best pass rushers stay on the field. The "specialty" NFL guys are few and far in between.

Dummervile is the most obvious pass rushing "specialist" I can remember. Someone made a good comparison with Shane Ray... HOWEVER... I watch every Bronco game and he plays behind the #3 DE/OLB undrafted Shaq Barrett who's better against the run.

I'm not an avid Broncos film guy or one that watches them much, but is Vonn Miller not exactly what Tim Williams is, with Williams maybe being bigger? I don't know if I hear about Miller being in pass coverage. Could easily be wrong though.

And I agree, second contract talk is long term future and extreme to any argument regarding a college junior. To me, that's like everyone giving Jeremy Johnson the Heisman and a Championship game start in the pre-season, pure speculation.

Someone would likely gamble on Big-Time-Timmy-Jim earlier than he should go, but clearly he would be MUCH more valuable if he developed into an every down LB.

He needs to gain 20 pounds this summer, and maybe (a big maybe) step into that old Hightower role next year. (not likely but nothing wrong with hoping)

This is huge news either way. I have been hoping he would return. Everyone loves recruiting, but the biggest players teams get every year are the juniors that decide to stay. They are the ones that can lead a team to a title if they come back. Bama been burned by DB's a couple times now; Kareem Jackson the one that sticks out to me as someone that should have come back, and really hurt the next years team by leaving.

Miller is probably a good 30 pounds heavier than Williams... so far this year Von Miller has played 736 of 951 defensive snaps so 74.4% of the snaps. Shane Ray is probably the best comparison, he's played less than 30% of the defensive snaps for Denver.

Man, didn't realize Miller was that damn big. I figured Williams was atleast 230. And I meant more of I rarely saw Miller is pass coveragr, but more of a Jarvis Jones type role where he blitzes about every play. You definitely know more than me on the matter, so I'm taking mental notes.

Yep. In Williams' defense, I'm sure Miller has gotten bigger/stronger since being in the league.

I've been on the T. Williams train as long as anyone... I think he's the best pass rusher we've had since Upshaw, hands down.

But there is a reason he literally does not play on run downs. Ever. I understand the staff really values Devall as a run stopper, but we've seen guys play in both situations (Upshaw, Hubbard, Hightower, etc).

Terry is right that TW has a really nice upside and could cash in at some point... But that will be after he proves he can play a position every down... Whether it's DE or OLB. Next year he should get as many snaps as possible, including run situations, unless a guy like Josh McMillon takes the Devall role. The other guys like Rashaan Evans and Christian Miller won't have the weight yet.

Williams is like 225-230 but Miller is over 250. He drops back into zone coverage sometimes but you are right, he rushes the passer probably 80% of the time he is on the field (in pass situations). Hes actually been fairly solid against the run tho.

I find that hard to believe.

I'm prone to just make things up.

I'll see if I can find the report/tweet. I should have linked it when I came across the eval. It was a tweet quoting one of the NFL scouts ... can't recall who from.
