What are your thoughts about the value of either the Big10 or the ACC picking up the east coast service academies? Sure, neither have have 100k seat stadiums, but I wonder if their service connections, that x-factor that makes them the closest thing to a Norte Dame as far as an appeal that is now dependant on Alumni status or home-state connection, would off set that. Road games to West Point or Anapolis would be like out games to Vanderbilt, but its a great deal easier to sell a service academy vs. a Penn State/Ohio State/Michigan than Vandy vs. Georgia/Florida/LSU. Further, consider that this move would have these conferences in the D.C./Baltimore and the New York City television markets. Do you have any idea how many former service members live in those areas? Huge.
I wonder if it could be an upward spiral, in that the services act as a multiplier for tv ratings and having named teams scheduled every year would help grow the on-campus footprint of the academies.
Your thoughts please.
