🏈 Better team?

i remember the colts a few years back.. they didn't look like real people.. they looked like madden 09.. every player's arms were the same size. they all moved as a unit like a synchronized swim team.. they honestly didn't look human.. this alabama team is starting to have the ability to look like that.. the game they play is so much faster and precise it looks slower.. there's just no erratic movement.. everyone gets to their point of execution and gets there in a hurry.. they get there with the fewest steps possible.. it is so exact that it makes football from 15-20 years ago look like a highschool game.. now i agree that there were great plays and great players back then, but coaching has been elevated to a new level.. i think football is being dissected more than ever.. it's like the first assembly line.. each and every little movement is scrutinized.. efficiency is the best word to describe it..

That is a good observation.

The 60's and 70's teams looked like "Average Joes" playing football.

The 80's and early to mid 90's teams looked like bigger guys playing football.

The teams today look like freaks of nature playing football, and the level of execution is amazing.

Why would this be about their accomplishments, that wouldn't even make sense. The only way to compare them at this point is ability, and while I wouldn't want to be on the wrong end of any of them, I completely agree that the science and training developed in the past 15-20 years makes today's athletes much more developed than those 20 years ago.

The title of this thread is BETTER TEAM. Dont put quotes around some BS you want it to read Big Fan.

All of this is based on opinion!(with exception of the thread title which you tried to skew to your view). Youve voiced yours and Ive voiced mine:panic:

The treat title is "Better team," not "best team relative to their competition." No skewing needed.

Fine. I have voiced my opinion, and you have voiced yours.

It just happens that yours is wrong.

Exactly.

Lenny is on the losing end of an argument and hates it. ...which is funny in itself...He should be used to it by now.

At the mid-point of this season, I think we have a better shot at a national championship than I did at the mid-point of the 1992 season, but who knows. I don't think this year's team could have scored on the 1992 defense nor could the 1992 offense score on this defense. Who was the kicker in 1992? It might come down to a long field goal. Also, might have to look back to see how the 92 team was in the turnover margin cause this group is pretty good and that might be the deciding factor.

I agree with you. It would be a big defensive struggle. The '92 offense would get some good running yards i think, with Lassic and Williams in the backfield....maybe 50 or 60 yards apiece. But the '09 Defense would shut down Barker almost completely. Let's face it, Barker was a "game manager" in the very truest sense of the word. He wasn't a hell of a passer, but he just found ways to win ball games.

The '09 offense would find it difficult to pass on the '92 defense, as well. Langham and Teague would break up a lot of passes and probably intercept one or two. Copeland, Curry, London and the rest of the D would probably put McElroy on his back 5 or 6 times. But I believe that Richardson, Ingram and Upchurch would bring enough punch to gain some respectable rushing yards against that '92 D.

Special teams...now that's where the rubber would meet the road in this game. Could you imagine watching Javier Arenas AND David Palmer returning kicks and punts in the same game?! That would probably provide most of the scoring. While Michael Proctor has a major edge in my mind, over Leigh Tiffin.

So i think the outcome would be something along the lines of.

1992 Alabama 17
2009 Alabama 14

The 2009 team would score on an Ingram touchdown run and punt return for a touchdown by Arenas.

The '92 team would get a kickoff return for a touchdown by Palmer. A touchdown run by Lassic....and would win the game in the final seconds, with a 42 yard field goal by Proctor.

;)

The BETTER TEAM at this point is 92.

Nobody has even argued that 2009 would be bigger and stronger than 92. Of course you have harped on it constantly in this thread! Even going to such scientific lengths as to tell us you lifted wieghts against some of those guys:bow::rofl:

I guess I lost this thread just like Joe Flacco, Paul Johnson and how Delware played in weak league.:fight::nana:

Unless this team wins the NC, 1992 has to get the nod. How can a Non-NC team ever be thought of as a better team than a Natioanal Championship?

This reminds me of that SNL skit about the Chicago fans, only it's Bama fans.

"What would happen if Ditka got into a fight with a hurricane?"

Ours would be, "But who would win if '92 played '73? Da-Bear!"

Any discussion of "better team in their day" or "more accomplished" or "against their competition" is stupid at this point, and pointless. The only way you can legitimately discuss "which is the better team" is head to head. There is no point in discussion if a 6-0 team that hasn't won anything yet has accomplished more than a 13-0 NC team.

Head to head, 2009 beats 1992 by 30 points.

Paul Johnson lost to Delaware.

So what if Flacco was QB at Delaware in 2007 when Johnson lost to them? Was Flacco the QB at Delaware in 2003 when Johnson lost to them then?!?

The guy is an ok coach, but not great. His offense will not win championships. If you want to be an 8 win fan, go pull for Ga Tech. We ran for what...close to 300 yards against Va Tech? It will be interesting to see how many yards that high powered offense of Ga Tech runs for today.

Yeah, I lifted weights against a number of them. I also lined up and smacked a few around on the football field. I knew Martin Houston personally - his brother and I were good friends and teammates.

I have a lot better idea of the talent and ability of the two teams than a sofa jockey who wouldn't know athleticism if it bit him on the face...of course I am sure you could get a better idea of their ability through your picture tube than locked up with them on the field or hanging out with them at the regional power meets and T&F events.

After all, you're lenny...you know everything.:lance:

There are a few exceptions, but I'm comparing position to position now.

Curry and Copeland would fit for our DE's.

But, at the same time, you take a guy like Martin Houston who was a fullback on that team and his size is what we are playing at RB. But, our RB's are a couple of seconds faster in the 40.

The secondary, as good as they were in '92, were the same height but a lot smaller and weaker than what we field today. Hell, Tommy Johnson's giving 20 lbs to Javy.

Lassic coming in at 180-185 as compared to a guy like Ingram at 212-215? Richardson at 220?

Sheils at Center...giving 50 lbs to Vlachos.

Tuberville (who was an assistant at Miami during 92) was asked this very question on WJOX earlier last week. He gave the nod to the '92 defense based on Copeland & Curry. Commented that defenses have had similar caliber players at a single DE position but few have had two great DEs playing at the same time. No matter what adjustments Miami tried to make, Gino Torretta found himself on his back.

You were correct again Va Tech schooled Johnson:nopity:

Legitimately discuss head to head a team from 92 to 2009? Thats possible in your mind I guess.

Since you lifted weights and knew Martin Houston you are definately superior to the rest us common folk.:panic:

Big fan lifted weights against a few of these guys. Tubberville is just a sofa jockey who wouldnt know althletism if it bit him in the face.:no-no:

I had a bunch of guys over watching the game last night. I mentioned this thread and Javy, and one of them said immediately, "Javy wouldn't start on the '92 team. Langham and Teague were faster and taller. He would sit. At least he wouldn't be getting burned by not looking around."

Glad we won last night. '92 would kill this team on special teams. McElroy is proving he's no Jay Barker either. '92 would definitely win the MNC this year.
