After catching up on your emails, it's time for a flashback and a flash forward on a rather important subject.

Alabama football vs. Auburn football.

Not long ago, I put in my two cents.

You chimed in yourselves. We agreed that the 2009 Alabama football team was the best Alabama football team ever.

An Auburn fan emailed with an interesting take.

If this is the best Alabama team ever, Auburn isn't disappointed.

On the contrary, Auburn is delighted.

But of course.

The best Alabama team ever trailed Auburn 14-0 in the first quarter.

The best Alabama team ever didn't take the lead for the first time against Auburn until 1:24 remained in the final quarter.

The best Alabama team ever beat Auburn by five points.

How much better can Alabama get?

It's hard to top 14-0.

How much better can Auburn get?

Lots, especially when the other team has the ball.

So while Alabama fans are debating their 2009 team's place in history, Auburn fans are looking ahead.

They're wondering if Signing Day could produce the best Auburn recruiting class ever.

And they're certain of something else.

The best Alabama team ever did beat Auburn, but it didn't beat the best Auburn team of the last decade.

The best Alabama team ever didn't beat Gene Chizik's best Auburn team.

That Auburn team is yet to come.

Especially since offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn is coming back.

Understand, I wouldn't expect Scarbinsky or the Auburn fan he quotes to pay any attention to a complimentary statement from Herbie about the Bama program.

Personally, I've gone back to something Kirk said in the NC game with a few minutes left on the clock. "This Alabama program is going to get stronger and stronger and stronger under Saban."

From an awards and records standpoint this is the best team in our history. However, this is not the best team we'll see under Saban. I firmly believe we'll be as good on defense next season as we were this season. I also firmly believe we'll be better on offense.

Auburn maggots are so damn foolish. They are sitting here saying "The best team in Alabama history" yet blatantly ignore the fact that Saban is still our FUTURE.
