bear facts mando clip of the week (any genre)

We'll begin this mini-set with a little acoustic number from the Drew Emmit Band; DE was one of the founding members of Leftover Salmon:

Speaking of Leftover Salmon, here is a clip of the band's current lineup.

I know for some of you bluegrass traditionalists that its blasphemy to have percussion and keyboard anywhere near the scene, but I try to keep an open mind about such things if the fellers don't butcher the song and dis' the genre.

No mando in these two clips, folks, but a couple good diddies to get y'all ready for the July 4th weekend:

'Pologize for missing a month's worth of weeks but summer session grad classes, a new job, and what little baseball I got to follow has left me little time to dig into the bluegrass archives, but I'm back with a couple of musical all-star lineups.

Enjoy!

What's bluegrass without a good killin song ever now & then?

Time to wipe away that tear and pickup the tempo:

This here is a little reminder for those of y'all headed to the Bama game this weekend--don't try to pick any purty things while you're there:

"Little Maggie," "Shady Grove," and "Rain and Snow" happen to be all-time bluegrass favorites of Factor's and he's always looking for new renditions of these tunes:

Here's Jimmy Ryan with Perfect Train Wreck doing their take on "Little Maggie."

Here's Ralph Stanley performing another more traditional bluegrass version of "Little Maggie/Pretty Polly" medley. This clip begins with a little lesson showing Dr. Stanley's three finger style (of banjo picking):

For any beginning mando players who might come across this post, I have included a link to the tablature for "Little Maggie," along with a couple different MP3 tempos of the song.

Looks like it will be downloadable at http://www.myspace.com/aaronparkermusic but not just yet.

This is a great song to revitalize a great thread.

Thanks for the info & kudos, Tim. Things are winding down where I will be able to contribute regularly again. One of my goals is to go back and clean up the links to previous posts that didn't survive the new format & upgrade.

You picked a terrific song by Allison Moorer to get this thread moving again. Salute!

Hope that others on the site will do the same. I always encourage other Bluegrass & Americana fans to post what they like.

Okay, I reckon we can add some young whippersnapperism to the collection.

Here's a "bluegrassy" version of The Raconteur's song "Old Enough," featuring Ashley Monroe on female vocals and Ricky Skaggs on mandolin:

I'm a little anxious to post this clip, so I ain't waiting a week to do it.

I heard this song for the first time about three weeks ago when I was in Durham, NC, and had to add it to my "Roadtrip" playlist that Factor's been preparing for one of his bucket list "to-do's" -- a westward jaunt to Wyoming & Montana via the open road. The "album" was released last month.

When I first heard this song, I immediately noticed Dan Fogelberg, Joni Mitchell, & Neil Young influences all rolled into one . . . couldn't help but long for those good old "heydays" when singer-songwriters were cranking out some "substance" during the mid-to-late 70's.
