there's a write-up of those 3 plays in the sports illustrated with Jalen on the cover (12/12/16).
there's also a fairly good chance

sarcasm

that Coach Saban knows who he's up against and what he's done in the past to win big games.
both coaches know what's at stake in this game. and both will be willing to do what it takes to win.
earlier this year (january and into february), i heard a bunch of talk like "if 'Bama doesn't do the onside kick, Clemson wins that game" or "'Bama can't win without pulling out the trick plays". well, if the roles were reversed and we were the one with the hot qb, they would have done the same thing. you do what it takes to win.
simple as that.
if you have plays like that in your book, and you don't call them, and you lose by a td or less, then everyone will be questioning you as to why you didn't call one of those plays. and if you do use them, and you, as the prohibitive underdog, beat a team you're not supposed to beat, then everyone says it's the only way you can win.
damned if you, damned if you don't. it's college football. it's just how it is.
me? i'd rather call the plays....do what it takes to win the game. if you lose, at least you can say you did everything you could to win. you're left with not many excuses. and never asking yourself, "what if?"
