🏈 Bcs national championship pre-game thread!!!!

Just wanted to say here's to a great game with no injuries. It's been fun to share (and disagree with) our opinions. I don't think Hollywood could come up with a better script then the Irish & Tide for the NC.

GO IRISH!

Get that Go Irish out of here...I agree though, no injuries hopefully and an Alabama blowout

I live in northeast Ohio, so I'm surrounded by Ohio State fans. OSU folk HATE ND, but everyone I've talked to, including my friends, are rooting for ND. They've all said they're tired of the SEC. Then entire country (save Alabama fans, of course), I'd wager, are pulling for ND for the same reason.

I live in the middle of Michigan and all of my friends want us to win and most of the people I have come in contact with today.

It was a crisp fall Saturday in November 1987. Bama traveled to South Bend to play Notre Dame. We had a home and home series with them, and the season before in 1986, we beat them at Legion Field for the first time ever. That of course, being the game where Cornelius Bennett planted Steve Buerlein. In the game in South Bend the next season, the result was a little different. As a matter of fact, it was one of the worst defeats in our long and storied history. What made that particular loss even tougher to swallow was the fact that we only had a home and home with Notre Dame for 1986 and 1987. So after that game, they were off of our schedule. I knew that playing them in a bowl game was the only way we were going to have a shot at avenging that loss. And with us being in the SEC and them being independent, the chances of meeting them in a bowl were not especially great. I knew we would not see the domers again for a long, long time. I never thought that the wait would be 25 years, however! And now, finally, it is here. A quarter century long wait to avenge one of our worst losses ever is mere hours from being over. I don't want to just win. I want to make the win over LSU in the National Title Game last year look close in comparison.

Lou Holtz has been unbearable on College Football Live, good lord. He went on a rant about how Bama has no chance of stopping Eifert and then when Mark May brings up how Amari Cooper is a huge weapon, Lou makes the point that you can take away one good receiver but if you dont have another one you're done. I was speechless.

Hope everyone was watching College Football Live, they just had a really moving story about Nico Johnson and his moms passing. He said he couldn't believe it when all of his teammates showed up to the funeral and then Coach Saban showed up and then he said "right then I knew this was my family." Great stuff.

I have a question. Maybe someone has pointed it out and I missed it. But is ’12 ND Defense better than ’11 LSU Defense? I ask because I’m hearing a lot of the experts say Bama’s offense hasn’t dropped off last year versus this year on offense. Not saying it will turn out the same but I looked it up and here is the comparison. And LSU absolutely had some big NFL talent on the field last year. I believe much more than ND.

2011 LSU Defense
Total Defense 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] (262 yds/gm)
Scoring Defense 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] (11 pts/gm)
Rushing Defense 5[SUP]th[/SUP] (90 yds/gm)
Passing Defense 8[SUP]th[/SUP] (171 yds/gm)

2012 ND Defense
Total Defense 6[SUP]th[/SUP] (287 yds/gm)
Scoring Defense 1[SUP]st[/SUP] (10 pts/gm)
Rushing Defense 4[SUP]th[/SUP] (92 yds/gm)
Passing Defense 21[SUP]st[/SUP] (194 yds/gm)

The big thing that sticks out to me is that LSU was much better versus the pass with the likes of Reed, Claiborne, and company. Not to mention their pass rush. If the Bama OLine is truly the best in the country and AJ has a great game they should prevail.

I really wish he would get on a sports radio talk show after the game so I could call in just bash the hell out of him for being such a homer. I'm not a guy that talks smack, but IDC what age he is, he's way too stubborn.

If we could run against LSU like we did, we can run on anyone. I expect a lot of draw plays and screens. I just hope Yeldon tucks that ball tight because Te'o looks like one of those guys who would punch it out quickly

I wish I would've seen that. I have a lot of respect for Nico. My 11 year-old-son wears his jersey.

I am currently watching last years game on ESPN Classic .. That time, I was watching the game in Birmingham, screaming my head off with about a hundred other fans. It was one of the most fun experiences of my life!

It's great to be able to sit down and watch it, just me this time. Alabama just struck first with a field goal .. I remember being so nervous only being up 3 points! Anyone else watching?

I'm keeping track of it in a sense.

We'll kick another field goal here in the next few minutes to go up 9-0.

I knew Brent Musberger was going to say, "Here we go again, Bama kicks another field goal" before going to that commercial break.

Yes. I've seen it a few times. :tongue-new:

Just noticed this: Les Miles was the AP Coach of the Year last season .. and Brian Kelly won it this year. If all goes well, two straight Coach of the Year winners are gonna lose on the big stage :biggrin_blue:

Also, I forgot about Maze's injury!! Watching him cry on the sideline as the half began made my stomach go to knots .. He is a free agent, right?

Bell just got a 30 yard gain .. Love it.
