I have adamant on this board that I want Oats to have a lifetime contract. I've also said Golden and Florida have the best team in the country this season. That said, I don't think this team or Oats are above being critiqued. We were obviously capable of playing with them based on the 1st half alone. Then Florida opened the second half getting four offensive rebounds on one possession and that literally epitomized what would be the rest of the game. And with a team full of talented veterans you expect better play. Only Youngblood was out there being a leader. Sears, Philon, Cliff, Stevenson, and Sherrell straight up quit after Florida went up 13. Oats refused to call a timeout after the momentum took a massive shift in their favor. It's not saying "fuck Oats, fire him!". It's literally just pointing out the flaws.

This is now the fourth straight game Golden has taken us to the woodshed. I think it's okay to be a bit frustrated as a fan. But I can be frustrated and appreciative of where the program is at the moment.

That last part, from my perspective, is the key. And I think you are. I don't doubt for a single second your allegiance and support for the program. Which is why, again (feel like we've been here before), my arrow wasn't really intended to hit any one person. Most all of my disdain sits with those who just pop in when Bama loses, take their little shots, then slither away. Those fans, IMO, don't deserve the happy emotions that come with Bama's newfound basketball success under Oats.

IMO, since you did reply, I do think you tend to get a bit emotionally wound up during games. But you're far from the first or only to do so. I've said before, a former admin here (porkchop) was the same way. Football was his sport of choice, but his radiator would blow every game, regardless of situation(s)... a 45-13 win or a 24-21 loss.

He would. Some of the blowouts in our fantasy baseball league probably registered on some richter scales. But, Chop was also a stand up guy, a more than solid dude, and would walk blind into a gunfight with nothing but a wooden spoon if someone in his circle needed his help. Gameday threads aside, I miss him around here.

Ok I do not disagree that Nelson going out impacted the game but if that one person makes that big of a difference you have bigger problems.

Still thinking about what we saw out of Bama yesterday. I think it comes down to UF is likley the best team in the country but also they are just a nightmare matchup for Bama. They expose every issue that we have on D with their length and guard play. Most teams cannot expose it to that degree because they cannot slow down our offense enough. Well UF can and then those issues are magnified. Still frustrating becuase Bama is a good team. UF is just much better. Big picure Oats has a Graham problem that he is going to have to figure out.

Yeah, I don’t think Nelson going out = UF skull dragging that ass in the 2nd half. UF being more dominate and physical on the boards and us going into the dribble drive turnover mode may have been a big contributor.

So basically, Bama heads into The Tournament later this week down Wrightsell, Mellette, likely Grant, and for all intents and purposes, Reid. Not ideal.

He's been better lately, IMO... but yeah, without Nelson, that ceiling feels much lower. I'll hold out some hope he can play, but damn. He just now got back to 100% and was moving, jumping better. Then, basically gets hurt again in what amounted to playing in the Music City Bowl days before the Playoffs began.

I think Dioubate can definitely fill his role, but he's nowhere near as polished offensively as Nelson. Not as a finisher or ball handler.

Stevenson's just inconsistent. And just like last game, when his shot isn't falling, it unfortunately affects his D.

Talked about things I wish Oats would tweak - watching Florida and they play damn near perfect in transition both ways. Oats wants us to play at light speed but I never think we do efficiently. But both ways man, Golden knows what buttons to push to get his guys to bring it for 40. It's honestly impressive.
