🏀 🏀 Alabama wins SEC opener, 73-68, over Tennessee

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – No. 19/19 Alabama will begin defense of its 2021 Southeastern Conference regular season crown Wednesday night when it welcomes No. 14/15 Tennessee to Coleman Coliseum in the league opener for both teams. The contest, which will be the lone meeting in the regular season between the two rivals, is slated for an 8 p.m. CT tip and will be televised on ESPN2.

The contest between the Tide and Vols marks the first time Alabama will play a league opener in which both UA and its opponent are ranked among the AP Top 25 since Jan. 5, 1973. In that contest that was played just shy of 49 years ago, then-No. 7 Alabama lost to then-No. 10 Vanderbilt, 73-72, in Nashville. Additionally, the last time the Tide played its conference home opener in which both teams were ranked came on Jan. 9, 2007 when then-No. 8 Alabama bettered No. 14 LSU, 71-61.

The Crimson Tide will be looking to rebound after it fell for the second time in its last three games, dropping dropped a 79-78 decision to Davidson in the C.M. Newton Classic on Dec. 21 in Birmingham, Ala. The loss came on the heels of a 92-78 loss at Memphis on Dec. 14 followed by a 65-59 home win over Jacksonville State on Dec. 18.

I haven't read the game notes so this may be included.

It's the first time since 2007 there's been a top 25 match-up in Coleman.

Just to add another "notch on the SOS bed post," along with what we've seen in OOC play Alabama could play six top 25 match-ups in Coleman this season.

Need to play lights out and get this thing turned back around. I know the Viles have a couple of key players out but can't let down because of that. They have capable people that will fill in.

JD is a turnover machine at this point and 3 pointers are not falling. Team has to pick up the D. So far not a formula for a win but not unlike the last 3 games. Oats is trying some different groupings and players that have not gotten as much playing time. Looks like he is trying to find someone that wants to play with some effort and toughness down low.

Closed the half on a 10 - 0 run. Tied at 33. Considering how a lot of that first half went... hallelujah!

Great to see Shackleford nail that three on Bama's penultimate possession! Hope that gets him out of his shooting funk.

Nice 10-0 run to close out the half to get even 33-33 but nothing seems to come easy. I guess give some credit to the Viles but effort, rebounding has to be there. Also, clean up the turnovers JD good lord.
