🏀 🏀 Alabama vs Tennessee: No. 6 Alabama Loses on Buzzer Beater at No. 5 Tennessee

The regular season SEC championship is much more meaningful than the SEC Tournament championship. And we have more than enough data points in recent years to show that the late season stress that the SECT puts on champions, isn't worth the price when they get bounced early from the Dance because they don't have their legs back. And yes, 10-15 years ago, it would have been great for Bama to win it. Usually because they had to win it because they were a perennial bubble team (which I alluded to in the previous reply). I have zero issues admitting that and am glad and thankful that Oats has the program at this level now where it doesn't matter.

I'll also add, and I know some don't want to believe this, but again, data points (and their own words)... the Committee basically ignores league tournament results other than the obvious bid guarantees that the winners get. So, from Bama's perspective... meaningless (or way overrated if one prefers that word).
This is you agreeing with me.

I thought the tornado season in ATL with UGA would end this.

Agree. An. Don't agree

The tournament on a neutral floor. As. Opposed. To who you play and officiating on a home floor

But i see ur logic.

Yeah. The tournament could be tough. Wear n tear of sec teams. Especially this year.

Go out early and rest for ncaa tournament
Not have to battle Missouri...Tennessee...AU back to back to back.

There's still a ton to be said about grinding out an SEC Tournament Championship. Playing that much in a short period of time is tough. Two ways to view it and it's fine wither way. The long road where you play twice a week and have time to rest, but play three times as many games. Or playing four or five games in that many days and having to play close to flawless to not slip up and be kicked out.

I don't agree with this at all, because there are a ton of teams needing tournament wins to get a bid that are on the bubble. Happens every year...

The day Jimmy Dykes just pissed me off. Its the day it started.

"The day 'Roll Tide' did this."

All things being equal, sweeping the championships would be awesome (but if Bama could only have 1 of them, the regular season title would be preferred every single time). IMO, it isn't worth the strain it puts on the team going into the NCAA's. It's the same with the SEC baseball tournament. Go back and look at some of the dominate teams (schools that were already locked into hosting) that have won it all in Hoover then found themselves in a quick exit situation the next weekend.

Extreme bubble teams that go on a run and win multiple games in the conference tournament might at times be helped, especially if there isn't a lot of bid stealing. But I think that is very rare (it might have helped A&M last year). But I don't think it is part of their selection criteria. As for a team like Bama, if they are a 1 seed going in, or a 2 seed going in, winning 3 games or winning 0 in Nashville won't move the needle either way, IMO. That's where my argument comes from. If Bama was a bubble team like they used to be, whether it helps or not, I'd want them to win as many in Nashville as possible and hopefully get the golden ticket punched.
