šŸˆ Bama's staff is complete with the hire of Brian Daboll

Recent RBs LaMichal James and LaGarrete Blount told me to tell you "Hi".

So... Hi, @OldPlayer

Blount had like 180 total career carries...

Running was never an issue with Oregon, they did plenty of it just not the style of running Bama fans want or enjoy. Nor Saban... I'm all for implementing some of the no huddle (with little emphasis on the "hurry up" aspect) and the read option but Chip Kelley's offenses are defense killers and by that I mean his own team's defense. Period.

Blount is better known for decking the Boise State player and being suspended than his running success in college.

Please, Lord, Bring Chip Kelly to Alabama

Alabama Must, Simply Must, Hire Chip Kelly As Offensive Coordinator

Do you miss it? Do you miss Alabama head coach Nick Saban angrily roaming the sideline in Tuscaloosa, berating an offensive coordinator who was once considered a rising star? Do you miss scenes like the one below, where Saban lit into Lane Kiffin after the Crimson Tide fumbled late in September’s 38–10 win over Western Kentucky, allowing the Hilltoppers to slice the deficit to a mere 28 points with less than a minute remaining?

Saban dismissed Kiffin on January 2, 2017, less than a month after he’d agreed to become Florida Atlantic’s next head coach and a week before Bama lost to Clemson in the national championship game. Steve Sarkisian, who was announced as Kiffin’s replacement-in-waiting on December 16, stepped into the OC role early with subpar results, as the Tide gained just 376 yards (and went 2-of-15 on third-down conversions) against the Tigers. And now, in a surprising twist, Sarkisian has left Bama to take the same position with the Atlanta Falcons, where he’ll replace Kyle Shanahan, who became the 49ers head coach on Monday. People will claim that Sark jumped to inherit the NFL’s highest-scoring offense, but really, he left to escape this reality:

Well, college football fans wondering where the Tide will turn next, I bring you the most tantalizing possibility. It’s time: Sark’s departure clears the way for Saban to bring Chip Kellyā€Šā€”ā€Šthe lord and savior of points, Pac-12 titles, and repeatedly covering up player injuriesā€Šā€”ā€Što Alabama.

I know, I know.

There are three stages to processing this: (1) recalling that we’ve been teased about Chip returning to campus before, and not wanting to fall for it again. In the past six months alone, he’s been rumored to have been in the mix for positions at UCLA, Cal, LSU, and others. This couldn’t really happen, could it? (2) Remembering that story from January 2016: The one in which Chip trekked to Bama’s campus before the title game, and Saban said ā€œChip Kelly is a good friend of myself and a lot of coaches on our staff, and he just happened to be in the area and he stopped by and visited with us for a little bitā€? The one that set the stage for a moment just like this one. (3) Realizing, oh goddamnit, this is definitely happening. Chip is going to take over, and blue-chip quarterback prospect Tua Tagovailoa is going to become the next Marcus Mariota, and Bo Scarbrough is going to become a scarier version of Kenjon Barner, and five-star early enrollee Najee Harris is going to break all kinds of NCAA rushing records, given that a coach already labeled him a ā€œbigger Barry Sandersā€ and that Harris has long been a vocal critic of Taco Tuesdays and Fast-Food Fridays. (Fine, I made that last part up.)

The point is, Chip is fresh off two failed NFL stints and needs a second college chance. (San Francisco’s 2–14 record this season had nothing to do with the organization’s overwhelming dysfunction. Just ask Jed York!) And no one does second chances like Nick Saban. Just the idea of Kelly’s offense pairing with Saban’s defense is causing me to break into a cold sweat, and that’s not even the most exciting part of this potential (read: inevitable) partnership.

Chip Kelly Bet on His System Until It Failed
The San Francisco 49ers fired Kelly on Sunday. Once seen as a football mastermind, his coaching future is now in doubt.theringer.com

Just imagine it: September 16, 2017. Alabama leads Colorado State 72–7 in the waning moments of the fourth quarter, and Chip calls for quarterback Jalen Hurts (who is still in the game) to throw a bomb to Calvin Ridley (also still in the game), because this is the type of thing that Kelly does. Colorado State intercepts the pass, returns it 50-plus yards for a meaningless score, and the college football world gets a photo like this, only better. Everyone is happy, except for maybe Phyllis from Finebaum and Puddles the Duck.

Plus, there’s one more reason Alabama has to hire Kellyā€Šā€”ā€Šone that may have dictated his career path this entire time, unbeknownst to everyone: He still needs to exact revenge against Auburn. Michael Dyer was down.

Jill sorry I had to,:rolf::naughtydevil:

Report: 'Some conversations have occurred between Nick Saban and Chip Kelly' about joining forces at Alabama

On Tuesday, the Atlanta Falcons announced that they have hired Alabama's offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian for the same role after Kyle Shanahan left to become the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers.

As soon as Sarkisian's move was announced, speculation immediately turned to former 49ers head coach Chip Kelly to become Nick Saban's next offensive coordinator. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Kelly will indeed be considered for the position and that conversations have already occurred in the last two days.

"My understanding is that there have been some conversations that have occurred between Nick Saban and Chip Kelly," Schefter said on ESPN Radio. "Now, whether or not it is enough to materialize into Nick Saban offering the job, Chip Kelly accepting the job, that's another issue. But I can tell there at least have been some conversations that have gone on over the last 24-48 hours between those two individuals."

Schefter added that he did not know if Kelly would be hired, but noted that he is a candidate.

"At the very least, my understanding is that Chip Kelly will be in consideration for that job and we will find out whether or not Nick Saban goes in that direction," Schefter said.

Kelly enjoyed his greatest success as a coach at the college level with the University of Oregon.

With Sarkisian leaving Alabama, that means Saban will be on to his third offensive coordinator in just the past two months. Sarkisian served in the role for just one game — the college football national championship game — after Lane Kiffin and Saban parted ways, with Kiffin moving on to his next job as the head coach at Florida Atlantic University.

Regardless of whom he (the all powerful Saban) selects; I will be just peachy. Just hope the new OC is in place before the spring sessions begin. I am very excited to see how the QB's develop into passing machines and see if there are enough footballs to keep the terrific RB's busy in between LONG balls being rocketed down field.

I'm so over these ex-head coaches coming in and Chip Kelley would be the worst pick in my opinion. I was happily wrong about Kiffin when he got here but Kelly is a defense killer. It's feast or famine with that style of offense. You're either going 3 and out, turning the ball over or scoring in 60 seconds. And I do not believe Kelly can change his offensive philosophy either.

And furthermore, those two egos would never be a harmonious pair because that hurry up is a defense killer.

Was Helfrich ever an Oc anywhere? Is he really a genius offensive mind? Or did he just take over what Kelly built at Oregon and make it work a year or 2 before it all got away? I've never understood the love for him. But I'm obviously not in the business.

He was the OC for Chip Kelly at Oregon despite the fact that Chip Kelly always called the plays. He was a QB coach at Arizona State and the OC of a horrendous offense at Colorado before that.

Former NFL coordinator expected to interview for Tide vacancy

Former college and NFL assistant coach George Godsey was expected to interview for the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach vacancy at Alabama on Wednesday, two sources told BamaOnLine.com.

Godsey spent the last six seasons in the NFL with the Houston Texans (2014-16) and New England Patriots (2011-13). Prior to that, he spent the beginning of his coaching career at Central Florida, where he earned his start as a graduate assistant. Godsey was elevated to quarterbacks coach at UCF in 2005 and moved over to coach the Golden Knights’ running backs coach in 2009-10.

He previously worked with Alabama offensive line coach Brent Key and associate athletics director for football Ed Marynowitz at Central Florida. In addition to working together at UCF, Godsey and Key were teammates at Georgia Tech.

Most recently, Godsey served as the offensive coordinator for the Houston Texans during the 2015 and 2016 seasons. He coached quarterbacks for the club in 2014. Godsey and the Texans agreed to a mutual parting of ways following the 2016 campaign.

Godsey also served as an offensive assistant (2011) and tight ends coach (2012-2013) in New England.

As a player, Godsey was a two-year starter at Georgia Tech, where he guided the Yellow Jackets to consecutive bowl games while behind center.
