🏈 Bama/VT in a nutshell

Bama's defense is going to be likely the best D that this VT team has every faced. that doesn't bode well for them in the first game of the season. i don't see VT scoring more than 20 points and that is actually a generous number.

Bama's O-line will be a new thing and will be untested going up against a formidable defense as well. VT will challenge these new guys and likely winplenty of battles so i don't expect Bama to come out and look great on offense.

The differences in this game from the way I see it is that Alabama's offensive players across the board are more talented and it will only take a handful of plays to put Bama over the top.

That combined with good special teams play will likely put Alabama over the top by 10 or less.

let's hope you're right! I think we stuff Tyrod and then their whole offensive strategy gets taken out of the game.

That's kind of the way I see it going as well. Once they realize that running the ball aint much of an option, they will breakdown and become the next Clemson. Demoralized at least for the night. I see our O line coming out and making a statement. They will have been going up against one of the best D lines for about a month or so. VT's D line will feel like a relief! :elephant:

The nut (and shell) I used was even smaller. Plain and simple, the VT defense will be on the field so long that they will give out and /or quit in the second half.

34-13 Bama!

I agree with you on both defensive statements. Alabama is a STRONG D but as you stated, V.T is suppose to be stout on D also. So, here is what I dont want to happen. BACK TO BACK 3 and OUTS. If our new o-line and new Q.B struggle and start putting up 3 plays and punt, It will wear down the Defense and we lose field position.

As far as special teams go, I do not see us with an advantage. Our kick-offs last year was not good. opposing teams always seem to get out past the 20. ( does anyone have the average starting field postion for opposing teams after kickoffs, from last year? I am curious. ) And although Tiffin is regarded as a first team S.E.C field goal kicker, he has been known for his inconsistence.

I think it is going to come down to the new offensive unit. They don't have to dominant, just don't hurt the cause. move the ball, no fumbles or interceptions deep in Bama territory. And our Defense will carry Bama. Give V.T those 3 plays and punt. Give the offense some breathing room . Do not put the new offensive unit under alot of pressure.

ROLLLL TIDE :a:

My take

VT offense is going to suffer greatly. The type offense VT runs will allow our D to play close to the line and shorten the field. VT's QB is going to run a LOT and get tired. I just don't see VT offense doing much in the way of scoring alot of points. If they score anything over 17, I will be very surprised. I also look for Bama to have about 2 interceptions in the game.

Bama's offense will be more balanced and steady in production. I believe McElroy is going to be MUCH better than JPW at passing. Word is he is much more accurate. This will be keep VT defense on the field and wear them out by the 4th quarter. I look for Bama to score at least 31 points if not more.

Bama will will fairly convincingly. Not a beat down, but there will be no doubt who the better team is.

Don't be surprised to see our D use a spy for Taylor to keep him hemmed in and limit any big plays. I look for our cover teams to be better this Fall as well. On kickoffs, it isn't always about getting the ball into the end zone. Get good height on them and they end up like sky punts with plenty of time to get down to cover. I see a seven to ten point win for the TIDE.

to me the key to this game is us keeping the vatech D/special teams from scoring and preventing turnovers. I think if we do that, things work out just fine....which means our Offense needs to take care of business - this was a concern of mine all last year - could we score quick. We couldn't score quick against Utah and it hurt us once the defense calmed down.

vatech's offense is interesting now that they lost their stud RB Evans. This puts alot of pressure on their QB and other RB's (2 of whom will probably be the new redshirts...supposedly very good). their QB's passing is questionable.

one thing i'm not sure folks have thought of...imagine if we had Prothro and Julio on the same team with a stud QB and our stable of RB's we will have for the next few years. just wow!!
