Tide TE signee Caden Clark says he's entering perfect situation (BOL)

It’s been a long and winding road for Caden Clark. Alabama’s longtime tight end commit is getting set to arrive at the Capstone this weekend after taking a gray-shirt offer as a member of the 2020 class, delaying his enrollment until 2021. The Akron (Ohio) Archbishop Hoban product has been pledged to UA since July of 2018 and never once wavered. An ACL/LCL tear in late 2019 altered his enrollment plans, but didn’t alter his commitment to the Tide. Now, fully healthy, Clark is ready to go.

“I’m back to 100 percent,” he told BamaOnLine, adding he’s slimmed down to about 240 pounds. “I got cleared around month nine. But just having these last three or four months to not only get to 100 percent, but get back to 110 percent and feel like I could be playing in a game tomorrow, that’s what really counts. A lot of times guys want to be back or have to be back and they’re not ready for it, or they risk getting hurt again. But I’m to a point where I feel so good I wish I was playing this week. I’m just really happy how my recovery has gone. It really doesn’t feel like I even did anything. It feels like I maybe broke a bone or something. I feel great.”

The coronavirus pandemic altered Clark’s ability to make it down to Tuscaloosa throughout the year, but the Ohio native stayed in touch with the UA staff, as well as his future room and teammate. “I talk to Coach Banks probably once every week, just staying in contact talking about everything,” Clark said. “I’ve been talking to my roommate a lot, which is really cool. He’s another tight end, Robbie Ouzts. Me and him talk every single day. He’s going to be a really good friend of mine.

"Bama’s been really awesome about everything. Just showing me coming in later and taking time to heal was the better idea. Just seeing that and understanding that was a big thing for me. I’m really happy I did that because if I had been back already I know I would be trying to play. I’ve been able to take the time to recover. They never wavered one day. Coach (Nick) Saban called me after I got hurt and said you have nothing to worry about, everything is going to be fine, and you’re going to be taken care of. Knowing that with everything else going on in my life was awesome.”

With just a few days remaining before Clark moves to his new home, what is he most excited about starting his college career? “Probably my first lift, just getting in that weight room with that music pumping,” Clark said. “It’s been screwed up with covid because I haven’t had anywhere to go but my own gym and I lift by myself. Probably that first lift and throwing weight around with everybody. Putting some chalk on our hands and moving some weight, that’s probably what I’m most excited for. Also just being there and moving in and that first night where I realize I’m finally here and this is my place now. Then waking up for that first 6 a.m. lift.”

Beyond just putting in work, watching the team play has Clark excited. “I love the offense. I wish Sark wasn’t leaving. I would love to come play for him,” Clark said. “But the offense is great. It’s obviously the best in college by far with the best athletes. It’s really crazy what they do. I feel like I’m going to fit right in. I feel like I’m going into the perfect situation.”
