Slade Bolden of West Monroe was named Monday as the 2017-18 Gatorade Louisiana Football Player of the Year.
Bolden, a 5-foot-11, 198-pound senior quarterback, passed for 1,622 yards and 20 touchdowns and rushed for 1,460 yards and 20 more scores for the Rebels, who reached the Class 5A state semifinals before losing to eventual champion Zachary.
Bolden, an Alabama commitment, also carries a 4.0 grade-point average and is ranked No. 1 in his class.
The Gatorade award recognizes athletic excellence along with high standards of academic achievement and high character demonstrated on and off the field.
