🏈 BAMA BEST TEAM EVER according to Billingsley

Exactly, MaxBlast. I think this is quite an accomplishment.

This guy isn't a 'Bama fan and is not a homer. He just analyzes data and his data told him that 'Bama was the best. Strength of schedule, rankings of team played, points scored, points not allowed, etc... went into this evaluation.

This is one of many interseting ways to look at the game...a rather shallow approach IMO, but interesting to see the approach played out regardless.
Look at this year's Boise team --scrolling down required-- They went 14 and 0 while playing in and winning a BCS bowl...and they can't crack the top 50. Serioulsy, the height of their year was last Spring's Spring Training Game. After that their schedule was easy.

I dont know about them being the best team EVER! No consistent passing game, suspect on special teams coverage.

As far as Boise State, I posted this on another thread.

Look at the records of these conferences overall this year.

WAC
5 of 9 teams finished with a losing record.
None of them rank in the top 50 in Strength of Schedule
The highest SOS is San Jose St with a 68 (Boise State 96th):lance:
SOS 96,89,84,95,91,74,77,94,68

MWest
4 of the 9 teams finished with losing records.
None of them rank in the top 50 in Strength of Schedule.
The highest SOS is New Mexico with a 55 (TCU 60th)
SOS 60,61,75,79,56,70,69,55,67

SEC
2 of 12 teams finish with a losing record (Vandy & Miss St)
All 12 teams rank in the top 50 in SOS, (9 in the top-20)
The highest SOS is Miss State in 1st (Alabama 2nd)
SOS 15,7,21,35,4,20,2,5,46,12,17,1

1957* at #118.

And that is too high. My aubie Dad took me to 3 of their games trying to get me to switch over to -in his words- a good team. One of those was the UK game which au won 6-0. There were 4 or 5 HS teams in Alabama in 1957 that would have beaten the 3-7 UK team worse than 6-0.

Alabama is the first team in major college football history to defeat the last three previous national champions in the same season (24-15 vs '07 champion LSU, 32-13 vs '08 & '06 champion Florida, 37-21 vs '05 champion Texas).

Alabama is the first team in major college football history to defeat two straight opponents with at least a 12-0 record (defeated 12-0 Florida 32-13 in SEC title game & 13-0 Texas 37-21 in BCS title game).

Alabama placed six players on the Associated Press All-American first team. That's the most ever selected from one team (previously five by Oklahoma in '87 & '03).

Alabama defeated 10 bowl opponents in 2009. That's the most ever recorded in major college football history.

It's kind of hard not to rank the 2009 team #1.....
