🏀 Bama 68-50 over Aubbie

It's been interesting (I use that word too often) watching this team this year. I'm still comparing it to our football program, and I think deservedly so. That's another thread...

I liked Auburn's approach in this game. If you put us in a zone press, then make us set up an offense versus a zone defense, it puts this team in its heels most of the time. The lack of talent rears its ugly head when we are forced to break a zone. ('Cuse would kill us)

A lot of that has to do with ball movement, as I see it. I'm seeing passing lanes open but they aren't recognized until it's a half a second late.

Best production I've seen off of a Bama bench in...Howard? Geez, maybe UF in Mark's tenure? Pett's layup to win, that game? I haven't looked at the box score but I'm guessing we had at least three points for every one Auburn got from her bench.

OK, another football observation. What have we said about coming out strong in the second half? Last nights game was sealed by half. That joker was mailed, delivered, opened, used...with more than half of the second remaining.

Barring a string of bad losses, that win just sealed the dance bid as I see it...and I haven't had any doubts we'd make it anyway.

I think Dino said it best last night, "maybe Tony Mitchell will realize HOW MUCH HE NEEDS this team as opposed to how much the team needs him!" As you stated Terry, Bama had the game won at the break.

Terry,

you make a good point about the bench. Coach Grant knows how to use the bench.

Great game and great hustle for our guys.

There is no doubt that Tony Mitchell is a very talented player. We forget all too often that most of the guys sitting on the bench were talented in their own right. Cooper and hankerson were the primary beneficiaries of Mitchell's absence in terms of PT. Cooper was a Parade All American, Hankerson had 4 start credentials out of high school. Given the opportunity to play, they displayed their talent. We have all seen that kind of thing happen in sports. Lets not forget the big Swede. He gave us seven very good minutes off the bench in the first half. That was a very nice left handed tip he got off his own miss. Terry, I remember a year in CMG's tenure where Jean Felix gave us offense off the bench. I'll do a little digging. I think Wimp had some pretty good bench players through the years

I'm just so glad my aubie hubbie was there to enjoy it. Ahh, that was mean! Sorry though, you all know how I despise Auburn. I don't care if we beat them in square dancing a win against them is always sweet. Not to mention the way in which we won.:a: I know they felt very good about their chances to begin with and then with Tony Mitchell out....well, let's just say I have a feeling they were very confident.

I didn't get to enjoy the full game because of my kids' activities, tests and homework last night but best bet you I'll sit down in a while and enjoy every second of it. Football, basketball, gymnastics, heck might as well beat 'em swimming too while we're at it.

Thanks. He makes a good point. Sorry I missed the game last night for sure.

ESPN probably has it. I watched it at 4 this morning. Hell, about to watch the UF vs UA gym meet in a few.

It's Rivalry week on ESPN. There's going to be some pretty good games throughout the rest of the weekend. I've been casually looking for the Ohio State game on TV today.

When you watch Cooper shoot free throws, it's easy to see he has a nice stroke shooting. When his three's start falling, like they were last night, this team can be a real threat to anyone they play.

An SEC road win with almost thirty points off the bench. It's been a long time since that's happened.

The last time may have been under CMG. But, I sort of wonder if we ever had that kind of production in a conference game.

I can't say it didn't happen under CMG, but since he usually only used one or two off the bench on average, I can't see how it would have happened.

C M Newton never went real deep into his bench. Wimp, on the othe rhand, nearly always had a strong player or two who could score. Keith Askins comes to mind in the nineties. The year Bama lost to eventual national champ NC in the sweet 16 Wimp brought Eric Richardson, Bobby Lee Hurt and Terry Williams off the bench. I'm not sure I could find the game summaries anymor, but I would bet that threesome had some big nights scoring.

Bama just seems like a different team without TM on the floor. I fondly remember in the win over Arkansas we got a steal and Levi Randolph was going in for a layup with TM behind him screaming at him to pass. Levi laid it in and Mitchell started swinging his arms and almost threw a fit on the floor. There wasnt a sense of happiness over the fact that they just scored off a turnover, just him being upset that he was denied his Sportscenter highlight. Honestly im one of the ones that thinks they will do better and go farther if he never rejoins the team. Overall attitude is 100x better without him bringing everyone down everytime something doesnt go his way. I enjoyed watching that game so much more with all 5 starters giving 110% instead of 4 out of 5
