In the six Alabama classes in which Nick Saban has spent a full year recruiting, Rivals.com has only once not ranked a Saban class No. 1. That came in 2010, when Alabama was No. 5 and one spot behind rival Auburn.
Four years later, as Alabama and Auburn enter the Iron Bowl as top-four teams for the first time, the 2010 classes should be the cornerstone for each team. But in some ways, that's not the case.
Auburn's 2013 turnaround has occurred despite less impact from a class four years ago than one would expect from the nation's fourth-ranked team. Only 50 percent of Auburn's 2010 signees, who included Cam Newton, are still on the roster.
Alabama has 65 percent of its 2010 signees still on the roster. Star linebacker C.J. Mosley was part of that class. But other than Mosley, most of Alabama's highest-profile players today did not come from 2010. In one case, Auburn is now benefitting from a 2010 Alabama signee (Corey Grant).
Whatever happened to the 2010 classes?
