Glen Guilbeau and Maurice Patton probably have whiplash today from moving Alabama up to #1 and #2 respectively. They were unapologetic in their ranking Alabama 16 and 18 last week.

It would be nice if we got the homer vote. Segrest and Johnson both have us #2 and OU #1. An argument could be made that we should be #1 and that argument should not be needed with home state writers, when 2 out of 3 Florida writers pick Alabama #1. OU's hometown writers had them 1st.

While Guilbeau did an about face, you don't have to stray far to see anti-saban sentiment in Louisiana. Randy Rosetta of the Baton Rouge Advocate has Alabama ranked 4th. He must not have watched the game.
Bob Hammond from the Laramie Boomerang has Alabama 4th as well.

To me, the question that you have to ask after 5 games, is who has done the most? Alabama has beaten two top 10 teams on the road, and a home win over a solid Tulane team. They have a win on the road in the SEC at Arkansas, and a mid-major. I like OU, but blowout wins over Cincinnati, Chattanooga, and a terrible Washington team, are not in the same league as Alabama's wins. A 35-10 win at home over 24th ranked TCU hardly compares to what Alabama did in Athens Saturday night.

Based on comparing the body of work, Alabama should be #1.

Now I know that some of you will spout the mantra "it does not matter" and cite some Saban quote, but it does matter to fans and national perception - even recruiting...even if it shouldn't matter to the team itself. OU has losers row of creampuffs between them and the Big 12 title game. Texas is the only team that might beat them, and that is unlikely. If our win over UGA could not catapult us, I question if beating LSU in Baton Rouge will. It may take a head to head game to do it.

Now lets whip UK.

Mr. Rosetta was probably inside Tiger Stadium watching Mississippi State's hapless offense tack on 27 points against LSU's defense.

MSU/LSU and Bama/UGA games were being played at the same time.

I'm happy with anything in the top 3 right now.

I posted a bit of my back and forth with Mo Patton after the Clemson game. Our exchanges continued into early last week and got more civil, and informative. In short, my take is that there was no way he was going to give Bama any benefit of the doubt until they proved themselves against Georgia. They did, and he changed his view on them.

My final analysis is that he seems like an okay guy.

What CNS said..'It don't matter where you are right now...aight...you still have to finish the season'.

I firmly believe and I'm sure everyone else would agree that if we continue to win, it does not matter about the rankings. If any SEC team can win out, they should be in the NC game.

Right now we have to focus on how to beat the under the radar Kentucky who have scored 126 points to their opponents 22 in four games.

UK looks to me like they are taking scheduling advice from Kansas State...Louisville (2-2), Middle TN St. (1-3), WKU (2-3) and Norfolk (2-3).

Makes it easy to be 4-0 when your opponents aren't .500 for their seasons and they are just entering conference play.

Point taken Terry....but holding opponents to 2, 3, 14, and 3 points respectively deserves due credit.

That also makes makes them intriguing...you really don't know what they've got and KY has had reputation of knocking off teams in recent years.

They do have a decent defense...all abt. stopping the run for UA to win.

Who'd have thought we'd be saying this about Tulane? We've (LSU) still got them to play, along with GA and FL, before getting to you guys. And I agree, Alabama has earned where they are and even #1. Now keep it up until you come to Death Valley!!

As I said before the Ga game, I think Tulane will win 7 or 8 games this year. Tulsa will get them, as will LSU. Houston will be an interesting matchup, but I think Tulane will pull it out.

Only thing I hate about this weeks polls is that Kentucky isn't ranked. We need to beat another overrated team just to prove a point. :D Man, I'm ready for Saturday.

Disclaimer - The overrated was a joke on what everyone has said about anyone we have played this far. Nothing against Kentucky, their defense looks strong and scheduling has nothing to do with the players ability. Finish and consistantcy will win this game, Let's have some. Roll Tide...

Best post of the week, Big Fan. Yes, it does matter. It matters because it would be fair. It matters because Alabama really should be #1 and Oklahoma should be number 2.

'Bama's schedule has been tougher and they have earned the number one spot in the land.
