🏈 Any news on the replacement DC yet?

I don't have an issue with Pruitt coming back. It seems though that no one else will be following Kirby to Athens though. I can recall on here that there once was a guy named Kiffin that coached at UT. We road his * like a government mule too about being arrogant, smug, an *, dickhead, etc. After 2 years, we have heaped some praises on him for what he has done with Blake Sims, Amari Cooper, Jake Coker, Derrick Henry, Calvin Ridley, etc. He is OUR arrogant, smug, *, dickhead, etc. If Pruitt comes, he will be OUR arrogant douchebag that happens to be OUR DC. No doubt in my mind that Saban can tone down any attitude that he may be bringing with him. We have seen him do it with numerous coaches and players. You either GET RIGHT OR GET GONE!!]

I think everyone saw that Kiffin brought some good offensive insight with him. I'm just not impressed with the results Pruitt has had at FSU or UGA. Why does Saban need to deal with a person who has Pruitt's attitude (alleged) when there are many other potential candidates that Saban could grab? Kiffin hasn't been a problem on or off the field for the two years that he's been here. He knows his role and does it.

The only thing I was worried about with Kiffin was his unwillingness or inability to follow the rules. It seems Saban has taken care of that. All the things we fans worry about, public perception sometimes, don't concern Saban so much. He just wants to win. I don't think there was ever any question about Kiffin's football knowledge. Obviously he could, can, and does recruit.

That's why I'm not worried about who Saban hires. He'll get it right or make it right.

True but that was when he was a HC. I have always thought he was a good OC and a great QB coach. Also, OC is not the same as DC on a Saban coached team. Do any of us doubt that Saban is really the de facto DC and just trains his DC to handle the play calling? Sure, he may overrule an OC from time to time but he designs the defense, from top to bottom and let's the DC call his plays.

@TerryP something else that comes to mind.....and I think it was you that told it about Pruitt. His ability to see personnel groupings and call a defense based off of what he sees coming on the offensive side of the ball. There again, does anybody really know what Saban is thinking. I thought the hiring of Pruitt made a lot of sense because on the thought of having someone that could call the defense familiar with Saban and the system. PLUS that made a lot of sense with the probability of Kiffen moving on to greener pastures.(Not having to break in an new DC and OC) I know we are not out of the woods yet because of the possibility of CLK getting an NFL OC gig.

I don't think he wants another OC job - in college or the NFL. I think he believes he has the ability to be a HC and his time with Saban is preparing him to do it right.

From what I understand, it would be HC (college) or NFL OC job (or better) for him to entertain leaving. As far as I know, the only job he's been linked to was Miami and that was an article written by one of the Miami sites beat writers.

When I think about all of this all I can recall is Kiffin made a promise to Nick he'd be here for two years, minimum. That commitment morphed its way into "Kiffin is leaving after two years." I know Saban wants him to say a third year.

We'll see. If good OC job came open on the left coast I can't see him staying. If it's a mediocre kind of position (IE: northern team, rare success) I can easily see him staying.

My issue with Pruitt doesn't lie in the area of "can he do the job?" I do think it's a downgrade from Kirby when it comes to recruiting ... and that's all dependent on who, where, socio-economic background, etc.

He's "maintained" the two programs he went to in FSU and UGA. No dramatic improvement on either team with one exception: there were times I saw an aggressiveness out of the Bulldogs this year I hadn't seen under Grantham, etc.

Saban hired Kirby years ago because he wanted a guy that was young and would be with him awhile. Does Saban see that with Pruitt as well? I can only assume.

LOL. I don't see that with Pruitt at all. The guy is too ambitious and is a job jumper. One thing I've disliked about him is he left here right as we lost our 5* CBs and he didn't bring in any highly rated CBs in his time here. A lot of fans think he's a god because the 3*s who were here after he left didn't perform as well as the 5*s he coached. He then left FSU right as a lot of their talent left.

CB recruiting took a nosedive while he was here and shot up again after he left.

One name no one has mentioned: Al Golden. Was a DC before he was a HC. S Fl, MD, VA, and PA connections.

The difference being that Kirby didn't need much, if any "de facto" involvement by Saban to run the Defense. I think Kirby has been running it full on for awhile now. The student had become the master... Now, most likely no matter who we pickup... we will be at the student stage again.

I think that is true but for the first few years, Smart was just the one calling the plays. Then Saban felt safe leaving it in Smart's hands. I also think that is why Saban has seemed a little more relaxed(as relaxed as he can be) the last few years.
