🏈 Any news on Kerry Murphy?

By more than one report, he's scheduled to enroll next week. It's being reported he has qualified.

I'm sure this question is going to come up...

He'll count towards this years rankings when he is enrolled.

He hasn't counted towards the final rankings of any of the previous classes. (IE: 2007)

Shibby! I had a feeling someone might have some kind of news on this guy. Will he fit somehow in the NT rotation of Cody, Chapman, and Dareus? Any other place he can contribute?

Just my guess as of this point...

Since he didn't participate in football this fall, one has to question what kind of shape he's in.

That said, he'll go through the 4th quarter program, spring camp, summer drills, etc.

The question, at least in my mind, is what happens with Marcel. He's got the speed and the ideal size to fit perfectly as a DE in our scheme.

Does he make that move?

Assuming he doesn't, I think the chances are good that Kerry will red-shirt next season.

IF Marcel moves to the DE, we very well could see Kerry taking the 3rd role in our NT position.

There are a lot of factors still left unanswered with other players to put a solid statement on Kerry for 2009. How do we do signing true pass rushing defensive ends in this class is among those questions.

I know he was a big deal but is he REALLY that good? And do you think we ought to waste a scholly on a guy that obviously has self discipline problems?

Not all grade issues are self-discipline issues. It's unfair, and a bit presumptuous, to categorize him that way.

The defensive tackle combination of both Chapman and Murphy was very good when they were in high school together. While at Hargrave he was able to fight off double teams from offensive lineman and still get penetration into the backfield.

The one area most have pointed to as an area for improvement has been moving from sideline to sideline.

Unless he's got a pretty severe learning disability, he's got self discipline issues. High school ain't that hard.

Kerry was involved in a rather seamy situation at Hoover High School that ultimately resulted in a house cleaning there that even cost ultra successful coach Rush Propst his job. It is safe to say that his high school grades reflected the high influence that the football program had on the academic program.

Click on "Hoover High Report" in the artcle if you want to know the gory details of this. Kerry apparently is LD to some extent, but he also was not a good class attender. FYI, Josh Chapman is student one abd Kerry Murphy is student two in the report.
