is what it's doing to the coaches. I can't blame anyone for giving his/her all, coaches included, to achieve goals that have been set, but there's comes a point where one should not abandon sportsmanship and class in the process.

The actions and behavior I saw exhibited by Coach Bob Stoops last night in the fourth quarter reminded me of one of those Little League coaches whose team is up 9 runs against an obviously inferior opponent and he's yelling and pushing his players to score and end things by the mercy rule, with no regard for the other team.

Except for when they've played Alabama, I have always pulled for the Sooners, but I won't be this bowl season. Honestly, I lost a lot of respect for Bob Stoops last night.

If a playoff system was in place, I doubt if you would have seen Oklahoma score 60 plus points last night or Bob Stoops acting like a man possessed with his team up 34 points with less than 5 minutes left. The man lived up to his last name yesterday.

Sooners coach Bob Stoops made sure of that by not pulling back even after Missouri was broken.

When Missouri scored a meaningless touchdown early in the fourth quarter, Stoops berated the defense in no uncertain terms for about 90 seconds. Cornerback Brian Jackson, who had an interception and a fumble recovery, bore the brunt of Stoops' fury.

Those same defenders shut out Missouri for the duration.

With a 48-21 lead and less than 11 minutes remaining, Stoops had quarterback Sam Bradford still in the game and throwing deep.

With a 55-21 lead and less than five minutes remaining, Bradford was still on the field to lead a drive that ended with the score that made Oklahoma the first NCAA team to score 60-plus points in five consecutive games.

"If you can't get into a championship game and play until the end when all that's been talked about us, then I'm sorry,'' Stoops said. "We're going to play to the end.

"The situation was we were in a championship game, and we were going to play until the end. Our guys did a nice job of that.''

In other words, take that, Texas.

Stoops and the Sooners bristled at the campaign mounted by Texas coach Mack Brown to get the Longhorns into the Big 12 championship game. Stoops was indignant, a school official said, that Brown appeared during the national telecast of the Sooners game against Oklahoma State to make the Longhorns' case.

Stoops did his best to quiet Sooners' BCS doubters

Oh, and I forget to mention how the BCS has transformed grown men, who should be setting examples for the young men they coach, to spineless whiners and pathetic politicians. It's enough to make a fan want to throw up.

That pretty much sums up my opinion.

Stoops' berated defense has given up 309 points all year, why is he just now chewing some but...he should have been doing that all year in my opinion.

~24 points a game...

Just a theory...

It wasn't that important this season except for one game, TTU.

Now, at this level, he's going to need that defense to step up.

I do find his lack of a defensive mind approach baffling...especially considering his roots are on the defensive side of the ball.

I can understand chewing out a defense but it was the way he reacted when his team forced a turnover late in the fourth quarter, putting Oklahoma in a great position to score again. The team was flagged for excessive celebration and moved back 15 yards (most of CBS' wrath should have been taken out on an assistant coach, not the team). Stoops was so bent on getting to 60 that he practical lost it because his offense was going to have to start 15 yards further back.

It didn't matter, though. The Sooners tacked on another score for good measure. I hope there comes a day when others can return the favor on Stoops. Maybe it will the Urban Legend who gets first shot.

I don't like how Stoops was acting but I can't say anything bad about running up the score. Like I heard someone say just last week "It's not the offense's job to stop itself from scoring, it's the opposing defense's job and if they can't stop your offense, then why should you quit scoring?"

That's an easy response, but I always think that way if you have your reserves in and are still scoring.

You took the words right outta my mouth. The only thing I would add is that Urban Meyer shows the same lack of class on a regular basis so I don't know which coach I would more like to see fed a huge portion of humble pie come January.

Some day soon, a major college athlete is going to have his career ended in the fourth quarter with his team up by 30+. It may not happen to Stoops, but it will happen eventually, and that will be the end of all this crap about running up scores. There's a reason you play reserves at the end of the game, and it has very little to do with getting younger players game experience, and a whole lot to do with protecting the health of the young men who are going to help you win the next game.

I'm just going to let someone else bring up what I'm thinking...

I hate the idea of style points as well. Stoops has really "stooped" to a new low by running up the score repeatedly. As stated earlier, one of these high profile players, ala Tyrone Prothro, will have any shot at an NFL career ended in one of these senseless attempts to earn style points.

Prothro's injury wasn't something that I had in mind when I made that post for a couple of reasons. First, I didn't have any problem with having him in the game at that stage. Second, his potential as a pro player was rather low as he would have basically been a return specialist in the NFL, much like David Palmer. I'm not saying that he wouldn't have played and wouldn't have caught passes, because he was one heck of a player, but I was thinking more along the lines of Tebow, Harrell, McCoy, or Bradford sustaining a career ending injury. How do you think that post game presser would go?
