Interesting, quick little read there. I hope Andre does well. I feel like the NFL has been cooling towards him a little bit for a variety of reasons but I think most of them are unfounded. He will have a great career baring injury.

I must agree with you Swampstick. Why Andre should drop or receive the bad rap is beyond me. He is a great young man, smart, and just happened to make a costly mistake. I wish him well and I hope he has a long and successful career.

I bear Andre no ill will, in fact I hope he is picked #1 and dominates for years. I just wish he would have the cojones to explain to his fans what the hell happened.

ive been told (i dont know this as fact obviously) that the reason he hasnt spoke about what exactly happened is because he doesnt want to throw a certain family member under the bus. just what i heard.

A top three or top four first round draft choice will command a minimum guaranteed salary in excess of $25MM. Before a team will invest that type of money there has to be a minimum of questions or 'holes' in ones CV. Both in physical play and in 'character' issues.

Two things that immediately come to mind in each of those areas are 1) Saban's comments to Smith caught on that production of Saban during Spring Camp along the line of 'If you would work hard all the time you do not realize how good you could be. You only work hard when you have to' and 2) the very poor and impatient decision to not wait another week or two before getting in too deep with an agent (and you could add a third for the unwise decision of what agent and agent group with which he initially reached an agreement).

Frankly, the first issue (Saban's comments) would worry me more if I were an NFL owner or GM. If I gave Smith a guaranteed $30MM deal, would he 'not have to' work hard any longer and revert to his old ways?

Him not playing probably cost Bama fans at least that much collectively after losing bets on the Utah game. Maybe he should redistribute that wealth.

I didn't remember Saban's comments about Andre and his work ethic. That would be something that might raise a flag to an extent. As far as Andre needing to give an apology to the fans, I don't think he has to. He admitted to a mistake and if that protects an over zealous family member then so be it.

Dang chief!! Did you lose some money on the game or something? A cheater and a loser? Why so harsh? The kid busted his tail for this team and University. He made a mistake and it's gonna cost him some money possibly.

i hope that he does well in the nfl. i'm also tired of everyone saying that he isn't a left tackle. i think he is going to be an anchor for a team for years.

You guys are right. He doesn't owe any of the fans anything, just as we owe him no allegiance. In my eyes, he's just a cheater and a loser.

He cheated, and he lost. I wouldn't go as far as to say that he's a cheater and a loser. We all make mistakes. The only reason that his had such an effect is because of the importance of all the positive work he had done for the team in the months and years prior.

Is Chief our Finebaum.....seems to always stir the pot with your posts. Just my observation through the last couple of months.

Back on topic...Kid made a mistake, he came to Bama when we were down and out. He made a mistake, i know i have made a few, thank God my wife and family never gave up on me. Smitty will always be a part of the Tide family and will be high on my list of favorite players.

Right now they are ripping Andre a new one on the NFL Network live at the combines. He announced to everyone about 30 minutes ago that he was not going to participate and wait for his pro day because he had not been working out much lately and he didnt feel like he was ready. Then later they announced over the PA that the could not find him. I dont know what is going on with him, but that was terrible advice. The scouts probably already had question marks about him, all this did was confirm that he has some issues.

Wow, that sounds like a mess. I'm surprised he is participating in Bama's pro day. I assumed most ties were cut with the suspension.

Man I hate to hear that. Someone with his upside continuing to mess up and drop stock. Truly sad.

I just caught wind of this a few minutes ago. What a bizarre situation. Not having followed him prior to the Sugar Bowl, were there any previous red flags that he might have some issues? I wonder how much cash this - combined with the bowl suspension - will end up costing him.

Sounds like this kid's getting some really poor advice, which is a shame considering his talent level.
