🏈 GAME THREAD 🏈 WEEK TWO: NCAA / SEC Games of the Week- Games begin Friday night.

OH, another if you're so inclined.

Missouri is still new to me even though they've been in the SEC for several years. As a fan I was never exposed to the "hatred" that is said to exist between the Kansas and Mizzou fan bases / programs. Maybe I've been wrong. I've never seen this as such a heated rivalry. But if I'm to believe what I'm reading? Columbia is going to be a madhouse (by their descriptions...have a hard time seeing that stadium as a madhouse.)

Ha! Both "mid-west" schools in the SEC (OU) and I expect both to win by about a touchdown.

Alright, after watching film on both teams and doing more research.... I've made my picks. I picked Az state to win, picked Mississippi State to cover the spread(-6.5), and I chose the over(58.5). Let's see what happens.
I'm with you on two of three: the total? I don't know. Allowing N Arizona to score 17 doesn't seem to mean AZ St. has much of a defense. Although, the way Southern Miss hung around with State for a few quarters ...

In the back of my head I'm thinking, "this is a perfect set up for Leavitt to have a game."

I've sat here for about 2-3 hours going over how this game could look. Neither looked good last week, it's early in the season, so you'll see mistakes defensively that they probably won't make later in the season. I think both defenses are still going through some growing pains, and we'll see that again tomorrow.

I expect a 35-31 or 38-35 type game. This is one of those games where I genuinely don't know how it could go, I just watched their film from last week and based my opinion/picks on that. I honestly think this game could go a multitude of ways.

I've looked at a half of a dozen sites and several accounts on X that are in the prognostication business, right? I don't see a lot of people stepping out on this game except local news outlets and a few national (CBS, etc.)

On a related note: I hate Bama's timeslot this weekend. I want to watch this game, and I want to watch the OU vs UM game, and I also believe the Ole Miss vs UK has the chance to turn weird (again.) Tomorrow night looks like I'll be listening to CTSN while watching a couple of other SEC teams play.

This is another one of those games where I have no clue what will happen. But if mizzou beats Kansas, I'm gonna be worried about Alabama playing them even more.... Because this Kansas team is pretty good. And if they blow them out, oh boy.
I look at Kelly Ford rankings throughout the season. One thing he does that's on the light-hearted side of football, but also true, is a "Watchability Scale." It tends to be true.

This week he has Kansas as one of those teams: #3 on his scale. UF is another and I also believe USF may give them a pause or two. Iowa State is in his top five: mentioned in the Sportsbook thread. AZ St also in his top five this week ...

Let ask your opinion on something. I'm thinking about taking Oklahoma State to cover the 28.5 spread they have on them against Oregon. I feel like thats too big of a spread, so maybe I could win that one. What do you think?

It's dropped a point (which I'll update here sometime in the next few hours.)

My thinking? It starts with the petty attitude I've seen from Gundy over the years and the way he started off this week spouting off about Oregon and their NIL budget. It made its way to Lanning and by his comments it looked to have gotten under his skin.

Ego vs another ego where Oregon has a huge advantage in overall talent? I picture Lanning as a guy who, if given the chance, would "hang a hundred" on them. Hell, I could see Oregon close to the projected total.

A different perspective; props on the first half. If Oregon covers this number do you think they'll "let off the gas" in the second? -1600 ML on the first half ... geez. -125 on -16.5 is a number I'd shy away from on any other game.

(The over/under on a TD pass from Okie State is .05 @ -180. LOL. )

And you're right, lanning would absolutely run the score up to send a message. So again, I'm not touching this one.

Random thought as I was looking at the schedule.

Last week CBS had Nevada and Penn State. This week they have Okie State and Oregon. There's some spice in this game: between the two coaches. Two weeks of second tier football.

Then I looked at NBC: BC and Sparty. Neither are playoff contenders and they won't be challenging for the B1G title. Last week they had New Mexico and Michigan. A name and third tier football?

NBC is carried by Notre Dame, but they can't be happy with their B1G selections this season. And CBS? Damn. What a drop off.

Northern Arizona is still ranked in the Top 20 at #19 in the AFCA FCS Coaches Poll. IIRC they were at #12 Preseason.

I hope CBS never makes another dime televising CFB. Cheapskate bastards screwed the SEC for years and years and years with their lousy $55M contract.
