🏈 GAME THREAD 🏈 Rivalry Week: NCAA / SEC Games of the Week

Marty Smith talking up OM but reality is the ceiling at OM in my mind is lower than LSU. That has been the case in my lifetime BUT with the current NIL/Portal era maybe that is not the case any longer, I still think blue bloods will rise and middle of the pack will settle out middle of the pack. All speculation but grounded in a century of history.

If I'm aTm, Im playing this game like the NFL. You're already in the playoffs, starters would be on the sideline. Win win situation for them, if they win great, they beat their rival, if they lose, so what, they dodged that extra SECCG and can rest/ prep for the playoffs.

There's the game, Bama has to win to make it to SEC championship and then has to win that to be in the CFP likely. If we lose to Georgia they'll penalize our win against Georgia and say we're way worse now...so essentially Bama has to win out again.

The way it should be. Just win starting tomorrow otherwise you have not earned your way to the CFP.

Which would be the opposite of what the committee has said.

I honestly don't know what the Committee has said on that and I've wondered. The more they have to walk back, the better, IMO. The few times I've seen clips of them this month, they've (Yurachek) been talking in circles. They appear lost within their own set guidelines (which are posted on their website and listed here...)

MISSION

The committee’s task will be to select the best teams, rank the teams for inclusion in the playoff and then assign the teams to the playoff bracket and their game sites.

PRINCIPLES

The committee will select the teams using a process that distinguishes among otherwise comparable teams by considering:
  • Strength of schedule,
  • Head-to-head competition,
  • Comparative outcomes of common opponents (without incenting margin of victory), and,
  • Other relevant factors such as unavailability of key players and coaches that may have affected a team’s performance during the season or likely will affect its postseason performance.

This I do know... When the SEC made the move to 9 conference games to appease the cries of others like the B1G, Sankey made it clear to the SEC members that the future losers of the SECCG would be protected as much as possible, despite no hard rule on it. SEC schools agreed to the 9 games (in part) under that impression. While Sankey doesn't have the power to just, make that happen... He does have the power to make things very difficult for the other conferences going forward if they screw his league. And if those other conferences are going to prove that they don't want to play fair (by ignoring SOS), then why should Sankey and the SEC? It'll be very telling, to me, who says what leading up to the SECCG (assuming here Alabama beats auburn) to provide cover for UA in case they lose to UGA (or in the immediate aftermath of the loss).

This is a valid point. It was Wade Manuel, not Yurachek.

BTW @Brandon Van de Graaff

Getting up at my normal time I wasn't shocked to see some of you guys online when Bama was tipping off at midnight, my time. Now, when I got up yesterday (FRI) you were online chatting. That was around 1AM. When I crashed out for the night last night, you were here, chatting. When I get up to start Saturday, you are here, chatting.

I like it. Dont' get me wrong. But I thought my sleep patters were "unique."

I know it's a really difficult job to have to defend some of the stuff and the more games that are played, the more things gets canceled out like head-to-head... but Yurachek is in way over his head. He should pass it off to someone else.
I believe it's a major conflict of interest. How can you have a committee chair who is also looking at hiring one of the coaches of the teams he's in charge of placing and seeding in the playoffs?
