šŸˆ šŸˆ PRE-GAME Thread: Alabama visits Texas A&M

Saban has talked about this A&M game—since Jimbo's comment about beating his ass where he asked "in golf?"—in terms of 2020 every time he's spoken of the matchup.

It's funny because he's always talking about how each year his teams are vastly different.

A&M doesn't have a QB and has a patched up offensive line. It's not going to bode well for the Aggies Saturday. Some of this is on Jimbo due to his mouth, some of it's due to the culture he's fostering there, and then there's the injury bug that's hit.
Up early Terry!?..lol

Hard to imagine.....a team beating bama with a backup QB....for sure!
Especially one that really hasnt been playing all that great....
Stranger things have happened...

Could be the reason. The real question is because of their prep all summer does it allow them to play much better against Bama. I expect them to and unless we change how they think it could be much tighter than people think. Now if we punch them in the mouth maybe it would get ugly. We did that against UF they punched back. We did that against OM and they did not. Which will it be this week?

Danny Ford did that at Arkansas. Prepped all YEAR for Bama. Won a couple but couldn't beat anyone else.

What’s Going To Happen

Time of possession.

Here’s the problem with the Texas A&M offensive issues. This isn’t a team built to put its foot on the gas. When this works, it’s grinding the game down, it’s making you play its tempo, and the defense is able to get a whole lot of rest and shines late.

34:27 a game. That’s the average time the 2018 Aggies were able to keep the ball – they were 3rd in the nation in time of possession.

The 2019 team finished 11th, keeping control for 33:06 a game. Last year? No. 3, holding it for almost 35 minutes a game.

That’s it. That’s what A&M can do when things are working.

This season?

30:22 a game. That’s not bad, but it had control for fewer than 25 minutes in the loss to Mississippi State. This year’s team just can’t pound away with the ground attack like it needs to, and it certainly won’t find it again against Alabama.

By the way, Alabama is third in the SEC in time of possession, keeping the ball for close to 32 minutes a game.

Alabama vs Texas A&M Prediction

Alabama 31, Texas A&M 13

Probably get roasted but I hope the team isn't thinking the same was as many fans are about the A&M game. A&M has some good players. A lot that returned from a really good team last year. Of course they have not played well this year but they have the players to do so.
Co-sign. They've got some players on that roster.... Thank goodness not at QB, but enough talent to compete.

They have no Quarterback. They have no offensive line. Two receivers are questionable for Saturday and another out for the season. So, they have Spiller who is supported by....?

The only two units that haven't been thinned by injury are the linebacking corps and their defensive line.

So for A&M to stay close sounds like it will all come down to their D's ability to keep Bama out of the endzone. I knew their QB had gotten hurt but just assumed they had a serviceable backup. OL issues would be a nightmare for any QB no matter how good they are.

The two highlighted statements point directly to a head coaching issue.

No, he's been terrible. I can't imagine us winning by less than three touchdowns, unless there is a late score.

I think, and hope so.

I was thinking back to last year, and IMO the Aggie DC Mike Elko had the best plan of any team against the Bama 2020 offense. They didn't have the secondary to be able to cover Smitty, Waddle who was fully healthy, and Metchie, but their plan was great.

Their only chance is Elko coming up with another great plan, getting some stops or turnovers, pressuring Bryce, stopping the run, and giving that offense a bunch of chances while the game is within 14 points or less.

You almost want to see them sell out on the run. Depth is short on our end at the position, the noise could play a factor with a somewhat "young" quarterback, and if they can stop that and somewhat "contain" the pass, they may have a chance. Their run defense is terrible though, so all that hype in the preseason about Leal and the others simply has not worked out in their favor. No clue what he is gameplanning, but if he spreads himself thin anywhere to try and cover everything we have, the talent we have will smash his plan to pieces fairly quickly.

I haven't seen A&M outside the Arkansas game - are they that bad stopping the run? Arkansas is a different scheme than us with QB run threat and a lot of perimeter zone runs with fast RBs.

I'd like to see the split zone attack work for the Bama offense as a base attack, get to the edge if they can block outside zone. If Bryce gets his timing and starts hitting the long play action passes that are open vs. the good teams, it's good night for everyone.
