TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Alabama learned Friday its postponed game at LSU was rescheduled for Dec. 5. The Crimson Tide and Tigers will meet three weeks later than expected, but they will meet this season -- barring another spike in COVID-19 cases in Baton Rouge.

Alabama, ranked No. 1 in the first College Football Playoff Top 25 of the season, was initially set to face LSU on Nov. 14. That game, however, wasn’t played on that date due to positive tests, contact tracing and subsequent quarantining for in the Tigers’ program. Already coming off its scheduled bye week, the Crimson Tide had back-to-back weekends off as a result.

But Alabama was still able to practice, and it spent three days preparing for the Tigers.

“One day of the bye week and then on Monday and Tuesday when we thought we were gonna play and the game got canceled. We actually had three days of work with them,” said head coach Nick Saban on Saturday. “Not that players are gonna immediately recall all that stuff, but because we’d had some experience with that, I think that’ll be beneficial to how we put the plan together. I think it’s important this time of year.”

The Crimson Tide enters the game with a perfect 8-0 record after a 42-13 win over the No. 22 Auburn Tigers. LSU, on the other hand, sits at 3-4 and lost to No. 5 Texas A&M, 20-7. Despite finally crossing paths, Alabama and LSU are trending in opposite directions.

Payback time is coming Ogre... I know it had been awhile and you should have been happy but leave it at that w/o running your mouth about the other school or at least keep that crap private. Win with some class...

A video surfaced following LSU’s victory over Alabama last season. Swept up in the euphoria of his team’s 46-41 win, Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron got a little passionate when talking to his players.

“We’ve been waiting for this moment, man,” he said, gathering his team at the 50-yard line inside Alabama's Bryant-Denny Stadium. “Right here, in the middle of the damn field. Let’s break it down. Tigers on three, ’cause this is our house from now on.”

This year’s meeting between No. 1 Alabama and LSU will take place in Baton Rouge, La. Although, Tiger Stadium has been a rather homey place for the Crimson Tide in recent years.

Alabama has won its last four road games against LSU, including shutouts in its last two trips to Baton Rouge. The last time LSU lit up the scoreboard in Tiger Stadium against the Tide came following a fourth-quarter field goal in a 20-13 overtime loss in 2014. Alabama scored a touchdown to open the first overtime period while LSU went four-and-out. Since then, it’s been all zeros for the Tigers against the Tide in Death Valley.

Alabama shutout LSU 29-0 in its last trip to Baton Rouge. Before that, Jalen Hurts’ 21-yard touchdown run clinched a 10-0 victory over the Tigers in 2016. Eight quarters, one overtime period, no points for LSU.

To be more specific, LSU’s field goal in 2014 came with 50 seconds remaining in regulation. That means Alabama has shut out LSU at home for the past 120 minutes and 50 seconds plus an overtime period.

It’s been even longer since the Tigers celebrated a home touchdown against the Tide. That last occurred following a 14-yard pass from Anthony Jennings to Malachi Dupre with 2:07 remaining in the first quarter of the 2014 loss. For those counting at home, that’s a drought of 167 minutes and seven seconds of game time.

“That streak doesn’t concern us,” said Alabama sophomore safety Jordan Battle, who will be making his first trip to Tiger Stadium this week. “We’re focusing on what we can do to make this game better.”

While Alabama players might be locked in on the present, there’s a decent chance its shutout streak in Death Valley continues this week. LSU will be without its top playmaker as junior receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. announced Sunday that he will be skipping the remainder of the season to prepare for next year’s NFL draft.

Marshall leads LSU with 48 receptions for 731 yards and 10 touchdowns and caught 10 passes for 134 yards and a touchdown during the Tigers’ 20-7 loss to Texas A&M over the weekend. The 6-foot-3, 201-pound wideout is thought to be a possible first-round pick in the draft.

“We all know that LSU has a great passing game,” Battle said. “Terrace Marshall is a big piece for that team, but I’m pretty sure they’re one of the top schools in the nation. I’m pretty sure they have many more receivers that can come in and not (only) fill the spot that he had but fill it just as good.”

In addition to Marshall, LSU will likely be without fellow starting receiver Racey McMath due to injury. McMath was injured against Arkansas on Nov. 21 and did not play during last week’s game against Texas A&M. The senior has 14 receptions for 195 yards and a touchdown through six games this season. The Tigers will also be without tight end/fullback Tory Carter, according to Orgeron. The head coach did not reveal the reason behind Carter’s absence.

LSU ranks sixth in the SEC averaging 30.43 points and fourth in the conference with 425.14 total yards per game. However, the Tigers only managed 267 yards and a lone touchdown in their loss to Texas A&M over the weekend. Alabama leads the SEC in scoring defense, holding its opponents to 18.5 points per game and has allowed just one touchdown over its last three contests.

No. 1 Alabama (8-0) and LSU (3-4) are set to kick off at 7 p.m. CT on Saturday. The Tide is currently a 28.5-point favorite in the matchup.

LSU will decide later this week how it uses freshman quarterbacks TJ Finley and Max Johnson against Alabama.

Both quarterbacks received significant playing time in LSU's 20-7 loss to Texas A&M. Finley started the game, but Johnson entered in the second half after Finley threw a pick-six.

"We're going to see this week," coach Ed Orgeron said. "We're going to practice both of them, then make that decision at the end of the week according to the game plan and what we need to get done on offense."

Orgeron said LSU inserted Johnson to call quarterback runs in an attempt to spark the Tigers' struggling offense on a wet field. Including sacks, Johnson finished with -4 yards rushing on eight attempts.

"We planned that all week," Orgeron said. "We thought we could get that done but we couldn't."

In his fourth start, Finley finished 9 of 25 passing for 118 yards. He now has two games with less than 200 yards passing and two interceptions, both LSU loses.

After rotating early in the game, Johnson entered for good in the third quarter. He completed 14 of 22 passes for 113 yards. Johnson led a 14-play, 81-yard touchdown drive to avoid a shutout.

Though neither quarterback played particularly well, Orgeron said LSU needs to create a scheme that puts players in better positions and stops blitzes. Finley and Johnson played under duress throughout the loss.

"I can't put anything on those young quarterbacks," Orgeron said. "I thought they did the best that they could."

There were a lot of people in the football complex who were irked but what transpired last year after the game. Saban hinted at it yesterday during his press conference, but that one stuck in his craw too, and stuff like that is usually water off the duck's back with him. A (very low level) athletic dept employee told a group of people I was with a while back that as bad as the Orgeron post game statement(s) was, the stunt pulled with the recruits in attendance at the game was looked at as the most egregious by many. Worth noting here that several of Alabama's better players, including some team leaders, are from that area, including literally LSU's back yard.

They going to use the Chinese Virus as the excuse this time or are they going to use the under 53 scholarships as the excuse?
I don't see the SEC letting them out.

Laying down I've seen some suggest; "look who we didn't have."

It's a blow out and they're coming back to Tuscaloosa in '21.
