🏈 GAME THREAD 🏈 Alabama Wins 24-21 Thriller Over Georgia

It hurts, bad. I listed Russaw as one of the most important players on defense before the season. The EDGE/Wolf room wasn't stacked with experienced pass rush talent to begin with, but he certainly has the ability to be an impact player. Losing him is bad. But as mentioned on the Good, Bad, Ugly thread, it is compounded by the recent loss of Jemerian Lathem (neck injury/surgery) too... that's 1st and 2nd string wiped out within days of each other at a position that was thin to begin with. Yhonzae Pierre is the next man up and he got a lot of snaps last night. Looks like Justin Hill will be the backup now... he played about 20 snaps last night.
Any midseason transfer options, or are they looking at that possibility?

Yesterday was a great win, against a elite opponent in their house. We need to build off this, remain consistent in the way we prepare and play, and keep winning. Next week is a big game for this program moving forward. Showing everyone that you can go out there and play at a high level every week. Getting complacent after beating Georgia is what we did last year leading up to Vandy. Learn from that mistake, prepare the right way all week, and go out there and take care of business. If we go into that game and do not play a high level, Vandy could beat us again. That is a very good football team they have this year. No coach, player, staffer, fan, you name it.... should overlook this week.

It would be incredibly frustrating to come out against Vandy and lay an egg again. I'm trusting this team in thinking that won't be a problem this week. This game should have all of their attention. Let's get after it.

I know Terry or Brandon will create Vandy thread, and I'll share my thoughts on that game over there... but let me assure you this:

How did Bama team got to this point? : Flashback: ‘I’m hurt’: Alabama football players react to stunning loss to Vanderbilt

They took it personally. You could hear that in their voices throughout interviews this summer, fall camp and you'll hear it this week. They're not going to let this affect them.

Diego did this recently: MSN

he's confident. I think players and coaches going to take it personally this week.

Kane W did a great job this game and the defense did an amazing job in the 4th quarter IMO. Last year I felt he didn't have the personnel or the scheme fully implemented to do what he wanted and it hurt us. I also saw today a lot of in-game adjustments that we didn't get as much last year. I'm starting to think that he couldn't adjust as much or he didn't feel comfortable with them as much at the time, either way I felt he was stellar.
Only thing in your post that made me scratch my head. Hard for me to say someone did a great job when you give up so many explosive plays in the run D and 230 ish yards.

That MSN article neglects to mention who all Vandy has played thus far, except for USCe. I agree the guys and staff have this one circled for the embarrassment it caused last year.

Coach Stallings said something similar to: "That other team wants to win too." 'Bama was playing one of the consistent top 5 teams in the country. None of us thought our defense was gonna shut them down. They stopped them when it mattered most.

I see "but, 230 rushing yards" here and there. What I don't see are references to defensive efficiency. Or, in this case, offensive efficiency. UGA came in as a top 20 team in offensive efficiency. Saturday, half of the NCAA did better.

2.1 points per drive for UGA against Bama? No! Let's focus on 230 instead of PPD or PPP?

The Bama defense played well enough Saturday to cut their average scoring production on offense by over 40 percent. I don't like the 230 number. I do like the 21.

There is no way that would happen, and then have them learn the scheme and offense in enough time to contribute immediately to the defense.
I know this is unlikely. If we had room, those teams firing their coaches open the portal and they are immediately eligible to play, if I understand correctly.

I get the learning curve to understand the D, but if we could land a good rush end or DL, they can get direction from a LB or other lineman for each play. It's not like they would show up with no football knowledge.

IF they entered the portal today they can't sign and play immediately. The can be recruited to another school while finishing their classes. (Another hurdle there. You can't just drop then pick up at another school mid-semester.) They can enter the portal, officially, unlike others. But, like the others, they have to wait until that signing period opens.

This season they'd be allowed to sign as soon as the teams in the championship are announced/decided. I am pretty sure it's still a 45-day window this year.

We talked about this, a little, in the Hot Seat thread. I saw something a few hours ago on X about an Arkansas player who has already made it public he's hitting the portal. It doesn't do him that much good: he'll still be in class this morning in Fayetteville (unless he's dropping out of school as well.)

I saw something that said they'd be immediately eligible to play. Many schools have minimesters and such...

@It Takes Eleven transferring to a school like UCLA may be a little different on the academic side. I think they are still on a quarter system. SO, I guess you could drop all your courses at your school and transfer there.

The athletic window would remain the same.
