Ok my rant is Alabama was #1 at the end of the regular season, was undefeated, and then lost their only game in a conference championship game in basically the 4th quarter. And what is their reward? At this point it looks like they're playing Utah. UTAH!!!. Alabama is basically playing a girl. If they win, nobody cares. If they lose, we'll be the butt of the joke.

Sure, the Texas situation is arguable, but at the very least, at this point it looks like they're probably gonna play Ohio St in the Fiesta Bowl. That is going to be a great matchup.

This is messed up IMO. They need to do something about this. Put Bama in the Rose Bowl against USC and put Penn St against Utah. I dont give a crap if the Rose Bowl is P10 vs B10, and I doubt most people do anymore. It will never happen, but Alabama got stuck by a sawed of broom in all this.

Sorry about the vent but I had to get it off my chest. But with all that said, I'm proud of this team and what they've done. Lets take care of business with Utah and pound them all over New Orleans and get our Sugar Bowl win!

ROLL TIDE!!!!!!
I sort of agree with you Utah don't belong on the same field with Alabama but on the other hand the BCS guaranteed a Bama win in this game.

We cannot undersell these guys.Remember Boise in '06.
That very well could beat us.I'm just saying,we need
to quit trashing these guys and welcome them to the
Sugar Bowl with class and style.

But we cannot underrate these guys.

Yep I do. Neat seeing a Ign poster here. the internet is a small place! somewhat :P

I try to stay off those boards though. Too many bama haters.

edit. and I agree with you. I meant no disrespect towards them. I'm just letting off some steam cause we couldn't play Texas.

Dozer, I have not read through this thread because I wanted to address your post specifically. You said some things that I wanted to comment on.

First off, welcome aboard. :)

As far as BAMA being ranked #1 and getting some kind of award or whatever, it's called taking care of business. BAMA had to win yesterday and then everything takes care of itself. No one cares if BAMA is ranked #1 in the regular season if they lose their conference championship game. That's the price you pay for playing in that game and losing it. Is it fair that some conferences do not have a championship game? Maybe. But that is the situation and the teams and coaches know that going in. It's not like someone threw a monkey wrench into the equasion at the end of the process. Saban and BAMA knew going in what the risks/rewards were.

As far as BAMA having to play Utah in the Sugar Bowl, it is a bit of a no-win situation for the Tide. BAMA has everything to lose and Utah has everything to gain in this one. I don't mean that as a slight against Utah either but you have to remember that BAMA was a couple of plays away from playing in the national title game. The disapointment in that has to be monumental. Then you have to get up for an undefeated team that everyone assumes you should beat anyway. If you can't get up or you just flat get beat you're looking like Ohio State or something. Like some kind of overrated pretender. If you win it's because you should have. Utah on the other hand, has everything to gan from this.

Is it fair? I don't know but I know that BAMA has one more game to play and one more game to win and it comes against an undefeated team. That alone should mean something. But if we're talking about teams getting the shaft, why don't we throw Texas in the mix. My goodness! They got jumped in the process and now have to play Ohio State in their bowl game. BAMA losing to utah might be pretty bad in the eyes of some of the "experts" but I think I'd personally rather lose to Utah than the ultimate fraud and pretender in Ohio State. OSU has a big name but IMHO they're essentially Notre Dame right now. A program that is living on name recognition alone, that while good enough to beat a bunch of average Joes just gets EXPOSED against better teams.

The national media (and especially ESPN) will give Texas a pass if they lose. They'll go back to business as usual, telling the college football world how wonderful OSU is and how lucky we are to have them. Meanwhile college football fans will shake their collective heads knowing that Ohio State really doesn't deserve to be on the same field with any elite team in the country at this point.

I'll take my chances with Utah if it comes down to actually losing the game.

I think when looking at the potential outcome of this game, the character of the team has to be examined. They do not seem to be the sort of group who would get so far down as to squander the opportunity to win a BCS bowl. Sure, losing to Florida hurt...but it was nothing that practice and another game won't cure.

Wilson, Caldwell, and Johnson will want to go out winners...and they will...big.

Hmm, never would have thought CoachUrbanMeyer was an Alabama fan.

You didn't hear him during the ESPN bowl selection special?

He said "Alabama is not a good team, they are a GREAT team."

He also acknowledged that they were beat up after last nights game.

As much as I hate to admit it, both Urban and Tebow have been class acts whenever they have been interviewed lately. Both of them have gained my respect for sure.
I am proud that we have restored the Bama/Florida rivalry and done it with class. I think both teams will be seeing a lot of each other in the future.

Actually i think the main reason they paired us with the Utes is because the BCS didnt wanna see Ohio State be 0-10 against the SEC.

OU
UA

Floridas over all skill and speed showed up in the 4th quarter....their depth killed us. Urban knows he will see Bama again and that they will only improve.

Meh...

I see it along the lines of youth and we don't have all the players we need to get yet.

Hightower, given another year, wouldn't have taken the bad angle he did which ended up resulting in that facemask penalty.

Another receiver who can get open opposite Julio would have helped a lot!!

You mean the facemask the resulted in a touchdown whne we stopped them on 3rd down. TO say that play was not huge is an understatement! Damn that facemask!

Our mistakes cost us the game, but that was a bad call. That wasn't a personal foul (the bulk of the tackle was with the front of the shoulder pads) and should have been a no-call, with UF trying a tying field goal.

The new face mask rule doesn't leave much room for interpretation. Touch the face mask = personal foul. It's been that way all season.

If we had a playoff system, would it not make the SEC CG obsolete? I mean, if we play and lost to Florida, but still make it into the playoffs, why does the game matter at all other than determining who the SEC Champs are? I starting thinking about this when the whole Missouri beating OK thing got started. Texas, who did not even play in the Big 12 CG would have played for the MNC. One of these days, Notre Dame will be good again and they are still not in a conference and had they went undefeated would be heading from Miami this year.

The point is, this whole system is broke and still no one is willing to fix it. The best way to determine who is number one is to play football games.

Now as far as our situation goes, we were the only team that actually had total control of their destiny. We came up a little short this year. Thats saddens me more than any of you can imagine. But it also makes me very proud and hopeful. I feel like that we are way ahead of schedule in the "process". You have to admit that most of us felt like this would be a 9 or 10 win season at best. But the players have stepped up and well exceeded our expectations. I am very excited about the future, and knowing that we are only losing 9 seniors on this great team makes me feel like that we have a excellent shot at being right back here next year and probably in the BCS game hunting for that crystal football.

Now as far as the Sugar Bowl goes, to me, any game other than the BCS National Championship game was going to be a disappointment. We are playing Utah, a team that is thus far undefeated. I look forward to seeing how we match up with them. I can't imagine how disappointing it must be to be a team in their situation, undefeated and still unable to compete for the BCS title. But I digress. I look forward to the game and I will always look back at this season with nothing but pride, knowing that this was the team that got things rolling for our 13th and yes probably our 14th and beyond National Title.

I agree that CUM and Tebow are a class act. I wish the fans we were sitting next to in the Dome would take a lesson from them. They made a noise like a gator snotting his nose. The biggest part of a gator fan is his mouth.

I have a funny feeling that after this NC win Noder Dame may have a shiney new coach with that cool florida tan line.
