šŸˆ Alabama's summer enrollees with best shot at early playing time

Several freshmen — such as safety Ronnie Harrison and quarterback Blake Barnett— enrolled at Alabama in January, providing them with an opportunity to take part in the Tide’s spring practice.

The other members of Alabama’s recruiting class this year will have to wait until preseason practice begins in August to compete and make an impression on the Tide coaching staff.

In my opinion, here are the six summer enrollees most likely to push for immediate playing time (listed alphabetically):

Daylon Charlot - WR
Minkah Fitzpatrick - S
Damien Harris - RB
Daron Payne - DT
Calvin Ridley - WR
Kendall Sheffield - DB/CB

Payne is a monster, no doubt, but the DL is our area of greatest depth and talent. Of course I could be wrong, but I do not expect him to see major playing time as a true freshman.

Out of that group, I can see one of the WR's 'shirting and the other getting some playing time. My gut tells me Ridly sees the field first and I'm certainly not scoffing at what Charlot brings.

I'm guessing we see two of these guys, maybe three, but most of that duty is on ST.

BTW, if you think Payne is a monster...we land Jones today? Geez...

That's a pretty solid list. I'm going to say both receivers see the field. I think Fitzpatrick will redshirt. You always have someone or three tweak something or go down, so I think Payne, Harris, Ridley, and Charlot have the best opportunities to see some good playing time.

I'll say Harris and Ridley see the most time outside of Harrison. With our Dline being "12 deep", Payne will really have to shine in Fall camp to see the field. I think Fitzpatrick and Sheffield see the field on STs.

I agree on the DL depth, however, we have not had a truly dominant nose in several years. I'm hoping Payne will be that type of player. Otherwise, Harris and Ridley both play early and often, and Harris may end up being our number two in terms of number of carries.
