🏈 Alabama’s 12 most influential people

They missed a few who might rival for a place in there. Paul Bryant, Jr. keeps a low profile, but he's certainly one of the movers and shakers in the State, perhaps in the top 5. Milton McGregor is near breaking into the top 12. Business Council of Alabama Bill Canary is a mover and a shaker, and if you're looking for diversity and future stars, Quentin Riggins has become a standout in that organization.

Although the article laments the unchanging, old white man makeup of their list, there have been changes. Bill Blount would have made many lists a few years ago. Shelby is 74, Hubbert is 73 and Riley is in his last term at 64 (still young enough for Senate run, though).

Two things I would like to note here. I agree that Paul Bryant jr. should have probably made that list. The man has plenty of pull but is not quite the showboat that some of the others on that list are.

Also, about the 'old white man' thing.......I thought we were not supposed to see race. They might be old white men (note how the article says that as if it is somehow bad to be old and white), but if they are powerful then fine. Why should we want or care for anyone to be powerful based on race.

I for one don't care whether they are white or black or brown or yellow. They are what they are. Race is not a factor.

I think allot of people miss the point of the "I have a dream" speech. Dr. King was very specific in his insistence that we NOT see race, rather we just see people. Focusing on race, whether white or black, is missing the point all together.

What you say is so true. I was just telling me my wife the other day that it doesn't seem that the majority of our nation remembers the basis of Dr. Kings famous speech. It kinda showed at the inaguation.
