Day 2 looked a lot like the original at Alabama football practice.
Cloudy skies made for comfortable temperatures as the Crimson Tide worked in helmets and shorts Friday. Shoulder pads can be added Saturday and full pads by Monday. Here's what we saw:
Offense
-- Running back Bo Scarbrough was in a black non-contact jersey. He was in white for a while Thursday but was in black the full media viewing period Friday. The true freshman was running drills, but not cutting hard on the knee injured back in March. He's out for a while with a torn ACL from the spring. An NCAA suspension will sideline him at least four games.
-- On the offensive line, Brandon Greene was the second-team right tackle behindDominick Jackson. Behind them, redshirt freshman Will Davis and true freshmanMatt Womack worked at right tackle.
-- Alphonse Taylor remains the second team right guard next to center J.C. Hassenhauer. True freshman Brandon Kennedy was with the third group at center with newcomer Richie Petibon at right guard.
-- Freshman RB Damien Harris had a nice leaping catch in drills with the quarterbacks. One rep later, coaches were on him about the route he ran.
-- Tight end Dakota Ball was noticeably thinner. He dropped 26 pounds (from 280 to 254) since last fall, a dip of 9.3 percent.
-- Quarterback competition remains open.
Defense
-- Outside linebacker Tim Williams heard from coach Tosh Lupoi after doing a ball-strip drill. "Come on, Tim. Got to be athletic enough to do this." Lupoi had praise for the junior on a pass-rush drill later on.
-- Stripping the ball was a top emphasis with Lupoi and the outside 'backers.
-- On the defensive line, Darren Lake caught heat from coach Bo Davis for "overexaggerating" during a drill.
-- Dillon Lee has worked strictly with inside linebackers during drills the last two days. Reggie Ragland and Lee are the first pairing at inside linebacker. Reuben Foster and Shaun Dion Hamilton are second.
