💬 Alabama Men's Golf wins National Championship (back to Back) beats Oklahoma State

Interesting comments by coaches McGraw and Seawell during the trophy presentation.

All 3 seniors scored a point, heck of a way to end their college career. Loved his Saban comment!

It never gets old hearing Roll Tide.

Bama proved they can handle the pressure, they turned it up on SMU, LSU, and Oklahoma State late in the rounds. The other teams weren't ready for it.

The Alabama men’s golf team won its second consecutive NCAA Championship on Wednesday, beating Oklahoma State 4-1 in match play on the par-70, 6,941-yard Prairie Dunes Country Club in Kansas.

Senior Bobby Wyatt picked up Alabama’s first win, beating Talor Gooch 3 and 2, while freshman Robby Shelton put the Crimson Tide up 2-0 by winning at No. 2 up 1 against Zachary Olsen.

Oklahoma State’s Wyndham Clark picked up a point for the Cowboys at No. 3, defeating sophomore Tom Lovelady 3 and 1.

At that point it came down to seniors Trey Mullinax and Cory Whitsett. A win by either would push Alabama over the top.

Leading his match at No. 4 from the fourth hole on, Mullinax closed out OSU’s Ian Davis 2 and 1 to clinch the title.

Whitsett then beat Jordan Niebrugge 2 and 1 to give the Tide a final tally of 4-1, matching its score from last year’s national championship match against Illinois.

I watch it,but knowing what I was watch is another thing. But it was Bama playing. A few thing I would like to know, but I'm going to go to the Internet and find the answer.

I was watching it at my part time golf job and after that awesome eagle putt went in I raised my arms and hollered Roll Tide, store full of people started staring then had a guy decked out in Bama golfing clothes come up to me give me a high five and a Roll Tide.

That kid is clutch. Straight money

Seawell made a comment about his first time playing at UA and him carding a nine on a four par—he just wasn't ready for "prime time" yet.

It's interesting to me thinking about Whitsett. As I recall it was his match we ended up losing when we lost the NC match against Texas three years ago. But, he's the guy that CJS had in the anchor position yesterday. (He came very close to closing out the match before Trey's putt for eagle.)

It's been fun watching these three seniors mature in their game. I hope we see that out of Lovelady who is returning next season along with Shelton. (Damn, did he tear up that back nine, or what?!?!)

We've got a kid named Gavin Moynihan who'll likely be a part of the "five" next season. He was selected as a Walker Cup member in 2013 for the Great Britain/Ireland squad and won the Amatuer title in Ireland in 2012.

Another player to watch is William Sellers. It's safe to compare him to Shelton—both won three state titles (individual) in high school. Robby Prater has championships on his resume. And, we've got some really good freshman joining the program as well.

I don't think it's a stretch to look at the 2015 squad as a top ten team.

Oklahoma State had a pretty young team there. What did they shoot total as a team? 62?

I don't quite understand why people try to put numbers on match play. If one player gets a birdie and wins the hole the opponent doesn't putt. You can't give them an automatic par if they aren't putting, ya know?

The kid that was playing with Shelton was playing very well. He'd have been several strokes below par, no doubt.

Nice recap on the drama with Championship match play from Cecil today. (Reminder, open this in a private window if you've passed your five articles a month.)
