šŸ€ Alabama Men’s Basketball Falls on the Road to Texas A&M, 65-56

I watched this game from tip to buzzer....you almost had the feeling....how it would end...the basket had a lid on it......
for some reason...on it in the second half....
The one guy who kept Bama in front in first half...hussled...dove for balls....rebounded...knocked downd 3s....was on the bench in crunch time... go figure.... Avery junior..... averaging 2-3 points agame,.....appeared ro have a lot of PT
How do you spell...N-I-T

I work a lot of nights, and would listen to game broadcasts on the radio quite often. Chris Stewart is a great broadcaster.

After hearing us up by 12 early in the 2nd half, I was like... "alright, ALRIGHT!" What seemed like 5 real-time minutes later, the game was tied again and when aTm took their 1st lead, I turned the radio off. It's that bad now. I think there was still 5 or 6 mins of game time left and I knew that as soon as we'd cough up a respectable lead and let them regain it, it was over. No point in listening anymore after that.

What does that tell you?

I like Avery. Really. I just knew he'd be a good fit because what seems like minutes after his announcement press conference he was already recruiting, and at tennis and soccer matches supporting other University athletic programs. Great ambassador out of the gate.

But it appears he's lost this team. It seems like his head is elsewhere. Maybe the NBA again, as @TerryP eluded to earlier. When you turn the radio off with 5 min left to play because you've read this book a few times before (despite still holding out hope) and know how the story ends, that's not a good thing.

And when a loyal beat writer starts tweeting his veiled disappointment and 99.9% of replies to his tweets are negative and many are calling for a coaching change, that's definitely NOT a good sign for where the program is headed.

When they decided to do another remodel of Coleman instead of a "stat of the art" basketball house.....the decision to be mediocre was made.... there is very little interest ..."it appears".....to have first class round ball at the University of Alabama
Coleman was great... 50 years ago. It's been an outdated dump for 2 decades. Dropping 10 mill a pop on various "upgrades" 2-3 times the last 15 years is like painting and polishing a turd. It might look pretty from a distance, but deep down, it's still a turd. Hell we've spent what... 30 million or so on various upgrades the last 10 years or so? Seems like that would've already halfway paid for a totally new venue by now.

And folks that say "well we upgraded a 60 year old stadium several times over the years, and now it's a top-5 football stadium in the country". Yeah, we lucked up. The existing structure at BDS was actually a good foundation to build around.

Coleman is just a turd.

I totally agree I like CAJ as well but this is his fourth year now he got us in the dance last year and that was due to Sexton. There was little to no urgency last night team seemed lackadaisical for the most part and they knew what was on the line. Time management late was poor. As I stated earlier I can see us finishing 1-4. We need a coach who can recruit or we will not be relevant in this conference to many good coaches now. Look at what Will Wade has done at LSU in a very short time they have freakish talent and it comes from all over the world only 4 players on the roster for LA.

I will say this he has recruited well and we are favorites to sign the 5 star forward out of Mountain Brook. If we are going to fire him we better hire a home run recruiter and coach. Best hope is that he leaves on his own when talking about him not being here.

We struggle against ball pressure as we don't have a true point guard.. that is the beginning of all of our issues. We have a team full of streaky shooters and when they start missing it gets contagious.. when we start making ..it can get contagious. When the other team starts pressuring, we start turning it over, we get a little tight and everybody starts missing shots. It just steam rolls on us.

Avery is bad about not calling timeouts and getting their heads right before it gets out of control.. I can see it when it starts and we are still up.. he waits until we are down before he starts calling timeouts.

We were down by 15 or so at UT, went on a little run, got a few stops. We cut the lead to 8, and their coach calls a TO.

What that is: seeing your kids start to take their foot off the gas so you call a TO to regroup and hopefully stomp the pedal back down again.

I have called a timeout in the first possession of a game before.. multiple times. It easy as a player when you are out there to lose focus on what is needed because you are wrapped up in your individual match up sometimes. As a coach, you gotta see when the other team is streaking and yours is losing confidence.. stop the bleeding and refocus them.. change up the defense for Christ sake. Avery should have a play in his pocket that he can go to for an easy bucket like that ally oop of the screen where Donta curls around. Then have them crank up the defense and give them a different look and force a turnover or them to call a timeout. It is the textbook way to kill a run.

We were the better team, even though we are slumping, and should have won that game. We aren't good enough to compete with the great teams but we are athletic enough to beat most of the others if Avery will just coach them hard and smart. I have heard people say it looks like the team has given up on him but to me it looks like Avery has given up on the team..

Tough crowd. The sketches I've seen of the renovation looking amazing.

Even if the same stupid people that gave Avery his buyout step forward and send him packing who will they hire? Is Bama a destination for a top coach or will the AD have to go back to some up and coming coaches list? Tuff situation for the AD but that IS HIS JOB.

No elite coach will want to come here. Everyone (that matters) seems to be satisfied with mediocrity. So much so that I don't see Avery getting fired. He'll be here until some NBA team is stupid enough to hire him again IMO.

Well if they're going to completely gut the inside, leaving the outer walls and totally rebuilding everything inside, that might be doable..

Problem is time. With only 7 months between seasons, that's not a lot. They gonna move home games to BJCC until it's complete?

Building a totally new arena saves that trouble.

Honestly, I'd be cool with the BJCC for a year. Honestly, I think it would be cool if they did most games at BJCC and then took turns doing a few games in some of the other arenas around the state (let some other areas get to check out a Bama game). Like shitty Garrett Coliseum or Dothan Civic Center or Mobile Civic Center or Von Braun Center. Hell they could still use the Foster Auditorium, too right? A good full year should give them plenty of time to get everything right.

.... some of this is supposed to be for students and post classes...
But maybe you were being sarcastic....i dont know..
...it was a bad decision...to not do a new coliseum....we might agree...period

Word is that 1 entire season would be played at the BJCC/Legacy Arena while the renovation was taking place. Much like we did with baseball playing at the Hoover Met while The Joe was basically rebuilt.
