💬 Alabama Hockey beats MSU Friday and Saturday. Total on 32-0

Hockey in Mississippi is an oxymoron.

This is Bama's D3 team, not its D1 team (fwiw, this D3 team is the first Bama hockey team to ever lose to Auburn (happened last week or the week before). Before Bama's original team grew so strong that it needed to go D1, it was D3, where the other SEC teams (UK is legit D2) play. Point of all this is that MSU was a god-awful program before it folded for a few years. Nothing's improved since its return to the ice. All MSU could do before it folded was lose big and fight. Pitiful program.!

Isn't it a club team? It's not supported by the athletic department.

That's correct. The D1 program doesn't play with athletic scholarship players (many may have an "academic" one). In the two years when Bama was D3 and then moved to D1 the following year, the parents of one of the Maryland defenders would come down every so often to watch him play. We would talk about this, that, and the other. He wasn't on any kind of a scholly, and with the hockey costs, they were spending about $40K+ a year to send him to Alabama.
