Serious question here... I will preface by saying I do not believe Byrne would go this route or even really seriously think about it but since we're doing "what ifs" a lot these days... what if he pulls the trigger and offers Pitino? How would yall react? There are a lot of people I still see that want this.

Personally, I would be done with Alabama basketball, at least as a fan, as long as he were here. Thankfully, like I said, I don't see that happening.

I will say this: Pitino is a guy with questionable morals that can coach. Sometime we just have to separate our personal belief and realize it is just a sport... If we want to win so bad... We will hire the right coach with the right qualities, which may not be Pitino.

His statement the other day probably answered that. But, with Matta's name getting so much ink I do believe now it should be more of a veteran, established HC. The only thing that would disappoint me about this search is if we don't do our due diligence to find that guy. If we come up snake eyes then we can go about vetting the up and comers.

Yes but do you sell your soul to win? Or lets not even look at the morality aspect, you want a guy that is going to decimate your program with sanctions?

It's disappointing to me hearing that there's a good number of the Bama basketball boosters who are willing to go that route. A lot of their justification runs along the Saban narrative. "They hated us when we hired Saban" pointing to all his statements, quick tenures at a few stops, etc. "Let's let 'em hate us in basketball as well."

Big difference in hating someone because he is an ass to the media and gives no shits if you like him or not and hating a guy because he gave out $10,000 handshakes and paid for hookers for recruits. The difference between those two scenarios is like the difference between a crack in the concrete and the grand canyon. I REALLY hope Byrne stands his ground if these boosters start getting pushy. I would think Saban would want to interject in that case, if no other reason than perception of bringing in a guy like that. Then again he wanted Freeze too...

Yep. And hired Lance back as well which I still don't quite understand.

But hell, Josh. He's running the program. He's made decisions I wouldn't have made with ex-employees but we work in two different worlds.

It's my impression a lot think there's news that is going to leak out about how Byrne is proceeding though this hiring process. That in spite of seeing no news until we heard Bo had been hired for baseball. When we were in the baseball coaching search Byrne said the same thing he did in this last presser.

There are going to be plenty of rumors out there. I know people enjoy talking these types of things. But unless you hear it from me, don't believe it. What happens is agents will try to create leverage. Sometimes coaches will try to create leverage. We want be thorough but expedient during this process.

Saw this posted on the Rant....so it must be true

quote:
Sources tell me Fred Hoiberg has turned down the Nebraska job and will return to Iowa State as head basketball coach, as Steve Prohm has accepted the Alabama head job

The interwebz…...thanks Al Gore

This "Eric in Scottsdale" fella...glanced and saw this on his timeline. Set aside Nebraska was left out but take this for all it's worth.

Seriously. How many of you believe that one?

In the records kept by Bracket Matrix for 2018 out of the 187 brackets they tabulated 10 had 67 teams picked correctly. And he got 68 of 68? :poop:
