Greg Byrne's four primary factors for Alabama's next head coach:

1. Player development
2. College background
3. Strong academics
4. NCAA compliance

Byrne asked if Alabama will be using a search firm for this search: "You're looking at the search firm."

This is Byrne's job so I don't understand hiring a search firm.

It also allows for conversations to happen between two parties without "conversations happening within two parties." There was one used when Coach Moore was having discussions with Jimmy Sexton.

Matta is unemployed, just go get him, Byrnes.
Several schools have reached out to Matta. Here comes the word "fluid" again, but that's just what these things are...fluid situations. From what I've learned over the last day there's reason to be optimistic. There's interest from both sides and we'll just have to see how far it goes.

I've not heard what RBR is tweeting about Matta being in Tuscaloosa today.

I understand that Byrnes has a personal connection through his contact at Arizona? I was actually a little surprised to find out Matta's only 50 years old. Should be lots of tread left on the tires. I love this guy's disposition around his ball club and during ball games. Brynes gets this done there may be hope for Crimson basketball after all.

Yikes, wasn't that a freaking gardner or someone that worked on Saban's lake house that Moore knew or something? Not a search committee.

My son’s friend had this to say this morning:

Interviews will be going on early this week, and barring anything unforeseen I expect an announcement of a new coach by the end of the week. I believe Greg Byrne knew who he was going to hire before he let Avery go, but those things can change. Byrne hires Bohannon within the week and I fully expect him to do the same.

I’ve been told multiple times to expect Thad Matta, the former Ohio St head coach, to receive an interview. Rick Pitino is a realistic option, but I am not sure if he would be actively pursued. Steve Prohm is out of the picture in my opinion. I was told if he was going to be the first call he more than likely would’ve taken it, but Byrne is going for a huge splash for this hire.

I want Thad Matta. He is young at 51, he has had great success coaching at a football school, and is a proven winner. He has had less that 20 wins in a season once in his 17 year career and that was his final year when he was in bad health. He says he feels better than he has in a long time and is waiting for the right job. If he comes, if would be a home run hire

Hang on whilst I straighten by badge, @TerryP

"beings"?
